So Dupnik could have prevented Loughner from buying his weapon and didn’t?
No, and stopping him from getting a legal weapon would not have stopped this madman from driving an SUV into the Congresswoman’s meeting at 100mph.
But Dupnik could have demanded involuntary legal/psychiatric evaluations of Jared L. after he made ANY death threats. Then Jared could have been kept in a locked ward as a danger to others. In FL this law is called the Baker Act. It’s used to pull raving, threatening lunatics off the street before something predictable like this happens.
Jared had been stalking Giffords since at least 2007, shades of “Taxi Driver” and John Hinkly/Jodie Foster. And he had been making many other overt death threats (felonies!) that were ignored by Dupnik’s dept.
