That's compelling. I've thought from the beginning we were talking about a planned hit. I think it was mob connected, but it could be bigger .

Nothing new? :( Bump
btw, when I googled "John P. Wheeler" and "murder," there were 2,160,000 hits. There is lots of interest, just not from the media. Maybe AMW will feature this case.
Keeping it BUMPed
John P. Wheeler Ill served as Chair of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
The photographs in this volume include beautiful images of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Much of their beauty comes from the reflective quality of the Memorial's black granite wall.
During the creation of the Memorial, a series of unexpected and graceful turns of events occurred. These events combined to make the Memorial a powerful symbol and instrument of healing.
Before construction of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, those of us working on the project knew the wall would be shiny and reflective. But no one anticipated the sharp, true, and expansive mirror quality of the wall. The high polish of the black granite surface reflects blue sky, green trees, the Washington Monument, the Capitol Dome, the Lincoln Memorial, and the expressive faces of visitors who approach the Wall.
The power of a mirror image lies in the fact that it shows us as others see us. Confronting such an image often leads us to peer inside ourselves: "Oh, that image isn't the real me . . . or, "I look so sad . . . and that is how I feel." Reflections thus reveal us to each other and to ourselves.
With great power, the images in this book reveal Americans to themselves, in faces that express pride of service, woundedness, grief, hope, and commitment to live up to the best that was in the lives of the Americans who gave their lives in Vietnam.

Bumping for Jack.

Of special interest in the article below is the last paragraph. I hope this means Lessig is taking this case on.

John Wheeler is on the web
John Wheeler now has a web site dedicated to those who wish to honor his memory and pass along condolences.
Wheeler is the 1962 Hampton High School graduate whose murdered body turned up in a Delaware landfill on New Year’s Eve. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he had served under three GOP presidents and was a driving force behind the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.
He is described by friends and colleagues as brilliant and tenacious, and his loss was a shock.
He is also featured in the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, “The Long Gray Line,” which profiles members of the West Point class of 1966 as they prepare to head off to Vietnam.
Wheeler’s murder remains a puzzle.
In this last 48 hours of life, he was in confused, disheveled state and shows up on surveillance videos at various places.
Do you have a story to share about John Wheeler? Would you like to talk about the police case itself? You don’t have to be in Hampton Roads. Please call 757-247-7821 or send me an email.

Someone needs to take this on - where’s the media, his friends, associates?
The silence is deafening!!
Thanks for the ping!
I do not want him to be the poster boy for every conspiracy nut out there. None of us do.
The way he was murdered and ‘dumped in a landfill’ will forever overshadow his contributions to this nation unless his murderer is arrested, charged, tried and convicted.
We do what we can here, but it is going to take more than us. Unless someone high up the food chain starts squeaking that wheel we might never know who killed Jack and why.
Very true - also the nut job sites have been on this from the get-go unfortunately. I suppose one could make a conspiracy out of anything these days as thee are a lot of weird things going on.
I’m just going to post this link again as it is a pretty good timeline of Jack’s last few days.

Residents of New Castle talk about whether Wheeler simply suffered a breakdown, losing his grip on reality and wandering into the wrong neighborhood. Maybe he antagonized the wrong person; maybe a robbery became a homicide.
Others, including some neighbors and friends, say that theory leaves too many unanswered questions. Did dumping a body 15 miles from where Wheeler was last seen indicate that he was killed by a professional, as Wheelers wife has speculated? And what about the man who fire-bombed the house across from Wheelers? Friends who watched the surveillance video taken in Wheelers final hours found it disturbing to see a man known for his sharp intellect in such a bewildered state. Jeff Rogers was close to Wheeler for six decades, since grade school. They double-dated together as teens, attended West Point together, and when Rogers married, Wheeler was his best man. When he saw the tape, some of the physical mannerisms rang true the arm outstretched during a moment of thought. But the man in the video wasnt the Jack Wheeler he knew.
The physical disorientation, the lack of control, walking around with one shoe, none of that was Jack, Rogers says. It was completely unlike him. I dont know what happened, but something happened to him.
In April, Rogers will be among scores of family, friends and admirers who are expected to attend a memorial service for Wheeler in the chapel at Arlington National Cemetery. Theyll remember a life of achievement, a life well lived. By then, they hope these questions might have answers: What happened to Jack Wheeler?
