..."I'd just like to say that when you look at unbalanced people, how they are - how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths, about tearing down the government, the anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," Pima County Sheriff Clarence W. Dupnik said in a nationally televised news conference.
He followed it up with an encore TV appearance Sunday, calling Arizona the "tombstone of the United States" for its lax gun laws and railing against "the rhetoric about hatred, about mistrust of government, about paranoia of how government operates."
"To try to inflame the public on a daily basis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, has impact on people, especially who are unbalanced personalities to begin with," he said, in a stern lecturing tone.
Dupnik, a friend and political ally of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, didn't name names. But apparently he wanted to.
"He told me [Saturday], 'I had to hold myself back from not mentioning people by name,' " said former senator Dennis DeConcini, a fellow Democrat from Arizona and longtime friend of the sheriff.
Whom did Dupnik have in mind? "We talked about [Rush] Limbaugh and the national press people like Glenn Beck," DeConcini said. "He said, 'You know, I turn those things on and they develop hatred.' "
National tragedies often produce unexpected new folk heroes and objects of scorn. This time, it is the blunt, imposing Dupnik, who turns 75 on Tuesday, who has emerged as both, depending on one's political perspective.
For some on the left, who question tea party fervor and former governor Sarah Palin's calls to make Giffords's district a campaign "target," Dupnik has become the one national figure with the courage to tell it like it is.

Since making his claim Saturday that the Tucson shootings were caused by "vitriolic rhetoric that we hear day in and day out from people in the radio business and some people in the TV business," Pima County Arizona Sheriff Clarence Dupnik has become a media darling being regularly quoted by press outlets from coast to coast.
On Sunday, during strong questioning from Fox News's Megyn Kelly, Dupnik admitted that his department has not uncovered one shred of evidence to support his now well-publicized assertion (video follows with partial transcript and commentary, relevant section at 1:55):

Dipstik is a big supporter of La Reconquista. He’s old and don’t have many years left. He’s just trying for his 15 minutes and a few extra bucks. We’ll be seeing a “book” out of this. The commie libs wouldn’t have it any other way.

This Sheriff is subject to a Recall under the AZ Constitution. He will get one.

Dupnik is a vile ugly and dangerous partisan. I have never in my life seen a law enforcement officer capitalize on a crime in this way. The only comparable example is Jim Garrett in Loisiana re the JFK killing. And that didn’t threaten the peace of the nation as this does.
This man just said on Fox that he has no doubt Sharon Angle’s senate campaign incited this killing!

WaPo calls this senile old RAT a “folk hero”?? I call him a partisan idiot. The people he’s defaming should sue him. And since these murders occoured in his county, isn’t he responsible for preventing them? Shouldn’t he have assigned a couple of deputies when a rep makes a public appearance? Sounds like old Clarence dropped the ball and is shirking his responsibility.
The sheriff, like that jack-— DeConcini are like all other liberals. They haven’t ever listened to Limbaugh, Beck or any of the others they blame for “the hateful rhetoric”. If they had they would know without a doubt they are lying. Look at the rhetoric when Bush was president and look at Obama’s rhetoric now - calling those who disagree with him “enemies”; “Punish your enemies”; “argue with your neighbors, get in their faces” and others. If anyone is to blame for hateful rhetoric, it is “The One” himself. Liberals/socialists in this country, otherwise known as democrats and MSM are scum
