A longtime friend of Jared Lee Loughner, the suspect in custody following the murder of six people in an apparent assassination attempt on Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, said there was a mysterious, significant change in him a year before the shooting.

"I don't know might have caused him to change, but from the way he was talking to me on Myspace... you can see. It was just questions and questions and random, weird questions that didn't go together," she said. "He wanted to know everything... He would just trip out.
"I don't know why it didn't jump out at me, like, 'Hey, something's wrong."

One Pima Community College student, who had a poetry class with Loughner later in his college career, said he would often act "wildly inappropriate."
"One day [Loughner] started making comments about terrorism and laughing about killing the baby," classmate Don Coorough told ABC News, referring to a discussion about abortions. "The rest of us were looking at him in shock ... I thought this young man was troubled."
Another classmate, Lydian Ali, recalled the incident as well.
"A girl had written a poem about an abortion. It was very emotional and she was teary eyed and he said something about strapping a bomb to the fetus and making a baby bomber," Ali said.

Says they never talked to their neighbors. Wow. Wonder where they came from...native Arizonans or from someplace else?
Yes, it must be that! Sarah and Glenn are both known for making those constant jokes about aborted fetuses. They must be stopped!
Just saw this on DU:
"We've searched like crazy for the shooter - Jared - but let's see if we can some up with any FR or tea party stuff about his dad Randy Loughner. I'll be searching as well and let you know if I come up with anything."
Who also goes to upscale, predominantly white Oro Valley in Tucson to inflict violence on a bunch of white people.
Not very consistent with a white supremacist - more consistent a left wing, marxist anarchist who wants to act out his rage against the white elite oligarchy
It wouldn’t surprise me if they declare the kid to be bipolar as well.
I worked with a guy who changed after a stroke...got big-time bipolar and was a total nutcase. You couldn’t trust him at all after that point. The wife stayed around with him because he was the sole bread-winner, but he was crazy 24 hours a day.
“I can only talk about the laws of the State Of Arizona, but the commitment laws are very stringent here and I believe everywhere else in the United States. The only way that someone can be committed for treatment against their will is if they have a major mental disorder at the time of their observation by the mental health staff. This means Major Depression or Schizophrenia or related disorders. The person has to be severely delusional or be suffering from auditory or visual hallucinations, which is hearing voices or seeing things that others can’t. This can not be related to using drugs and alcohol. In fact if chemicals are being used the authorities usually will not commit.
The second condition is that the person in question has to be proved to be a life-threatening threat to themselves or someone else in the recent past. This has to be witnessed by two people. If someone says they are going to kill someone with only one witness this is not enough.
Even if you are able to get this person committed they will be in the hospital for a three day period for observation only. Then there will be a court case to decide if the person should be forced into treatment. If so, then they could be committed for anywhere between 30 and 90 days. At the end of this time another court case would be instituted to either let the person out or give them further time.”

It may have been tough, but it sounds like this kid may have qualified if nothing else for a three day period of observation if his parents had cared enough to try.
No, the standard for involuntary commitment is mental illness or disorder and presenting imminent danger to self or others. As a wee lawyer years ago, I did a lot of commitment hearings, and most of those committed had done no physical harm to anyone, and most of those who had, had hurt only themselves.
Two, possibly three family members, one per generation now for three generations. The meds exist now to manage this. Previously, the person would only have alcohol or drugs, in the 50s-60s, thorizine and shock treatment which made the patient into a zombie. Prior to that, nothing. Haven’t heard anything yet about this person’s family. I’m not saying he gets off or anything, just sad for all involved.
He also had alcohol poisoning at some point so he may have been drinking heavily too.
He lived with his parents.
It is possible to have multiple mental illnesses so it wouldn’t surprise me either if this kid was very sick.
Doesn’t mean he shouldn’t pay for his crimes though.
Hell! The sheriff himself says the kid Made Threats!
;O)

Jim Robinson has already checked the database; there's nothing here -- unlike the userid 'erad3' at AboveTopSecret, and potentially, that poster named, "boy blue" on KOS.
That's been a PC term now instead of perpetrator or killer!!!
There was another leftist girl playing in the band with the "KILLER" saying he was a loony far left when she knew him which the "Drive-By" is NOT reporting, but making damage control instead trying tar the Tea Party???
