Last light on Fox I caught Whorealdo blathering on about how Rep Giffords’ opponent posed in a campaign ad in camo weilding an M16, insinuating, ho hum, the divisiveness this sort of thing causes, and how dangerous easy access to firearms can be and blah blah BLAH! 20 seconds of this was about all I could stomach.

John Kerry ( who was in Vietnam) campaigned as a pheasant hunter with a REAL shotgun as well as camo. He also inquired as to where he could buy a hunting license in one campaign spot.

Many people attribute West Virginia's then-Governor Joe Manchin's Senate campaign ad ("Dead Aim"), where he shot a rifle bullet through the cap and trade legislation, as turning the election around for him.
Pundits heralded the ad as clever and convincing for Manchin. Nobody called it "vitriol."
