Back in 2008, the Daily Kos listed Congresswoman Giffords in their "target list" and described putting a "bullseye" on her district. So, I guess it's fair to say that Markos Moulitsas is as culpable as anyone.

And, for crying out loud, everybody in politics and in the chattering classes uses terms like “targeted” or “targeting” in political contexts like elections and legislation, with no violent meaning whatsoever.

In the English language, cameras are also used to "shoot" people. I guess either "camera" or "shoot" will have to become a forbidden word.

Also, a neutral student of political language would decide that Leftist/progressives use more incendiary rhetoric in general practice, than conservatives do.

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama said at a Philadelphia fundraiser Friday night. “Because from what I understand folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”

I don’t see why Toby should be surprised. After all, it’s just the left’s typical M.O.

Nice, and in Philly of all places. If that comment was made by a Republican it would have already been linked to the shootings in Arizona.

(I posted this at the article)

It seems what we are witnessing in America is a kind of death match of primal forces. In Freudian terms, the “id” of politics (the Left)—the pleasure seeking aspect which refuses to recognize good or evil—is attempting a coup against the political “ego” and “superego” of the electorate.

On an individual level, this is a common rite of passage...a battle to the finish which occurs any time an adolescent grows into adulthood. It isn’t pretty and it isn’t painless...but the end result is a butterfly compared to a caterpillar.

That said, I can’t recall this happening so obviously on a national level. This national phenomenon must be due to the fact that information and news is now instantaneous and permeates much of the population in its immediacy. Connectivity has transformed our nation, perhaps our world, into a single unit such that it behaves as a giant individual human.

In the end, despite all the destruction and gnashing of teeth, maturity will carry the day. If our species is to survive, it must.

I lived in Jamaica not too long after they had gained independence from Great Britain. The island was divided politically into two parties, each of which was closely allied to a labor union. (All labor was controlled by only two unions. Political passion on the island seemed to be comparable to American passions for sports teams at that time. Total loyalty, and personal identification closely bound up with one side or the other. In Jamaica, jobs and housing for individuals depended on who was in power, and who wasn’t.

I can’t say that Jamaica has improved or ‘matured’ in all the succeeding years. And I see parallels here that could drive us into the same downward spiral. The species might survive, but that does not mean that civilization is a given.

There wasn’t a legend or a “Map Reading for Dummies” link so you shouldn’t expect the press to do any real work in finding out what that symbol actually meant. /sarcasm

One could just as easily blame Van Jones with his “top down, bottom up, inside out” urgings for violence that happens in our times.

Or, how about blaming the pRESIDENT who said, "They bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun."

You are absolutely right, because they will wait for the next tragedy, hoping-upon-hope, that the perpetrator is linked to conservatism.

This goes all the way back to the Kennedy assassination where the MSM leapt to say Oswald was right-wing.

It is apparent now that the liberals were disappointed that the assassin did not turn out to be a member of the John Birch Society, Christian Anti-Communist Crusade, Daughters of the American Revolution, American Legion, or Christian Crusade. Within one hour after the death of Mr. Kennedy on the streets of Dallas, Friday, November 22, the television networks were blaming the anti-Communist community for the tragic event. ( source )

It could be that Sheriff Dupnik is trying to turn away scrutiny about the abysmal lack of concern about this gunman. And just what was the offense they will not name?

Dupnik said the suspected shooter has made death threats before and been contacted by law-enforcement officers. The threats weren't against Giffords, Dupnik said. Suspect in rampage called 'very disturbed' (has made death threats before)

From what I have read and heard the shooter sounds like a left wing loonie.
