Also, Japan would likely intervene, especially if China attacks Okinawa.
Also, wouldn't any preemptive attack on a carrier group kick in the NATO doctrine of “an attack on one is an attack on all”. I am not saying they would make it to the fight in time but China would eventually have to deal with the NATO country's, whether it be militarily or economically.
But, maybe I am taking this a bit to far. I definitely believe Japan would just not sit around with their thumbs up the butts if Okinawa was attacked.
