Minor correction, Sandrat. The Gadsden purchase was separate from the transaction in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty resulted in the purchase of most of the southwest. The Gadsden purchase was a much smaller transaction. Still, your point is valid. Both slices of land were acquired by purchase to which the Mexican government agreed.
