New START treaty passes key Senate vote (Cloture passes 67-28, 11 R support)
Los Angeles Times ^ | Dec 22, 2010 | Lisa Mascaro and Michael Muskal

The Senate voted 67-28 to pass a cloture motion, seemingly enough to assure final ratification. Eleven Republicans joined with 56 Democrats to pass the cloture motion.

It will take 67 votes to ratify the New Start pact, which would give the Obama administration its top foreign policy goal in the lame-duck session.

Among Republicans announcing their support were Richard G. Lugar of Indiana, George V. Voinovich of Ohio, Scott Brown of Massachusetts, Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine, Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker of Tennessee, Johnny Isakson of Georgia, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Thad Cochran of Mississippi, and Bob Bennett of Utah. All voted for cloture.

Actually, only 9 of the 11. Voinovich (OH)
and Bennett (UT) have already been beaten in primaries or announced their retirements. This is their final middle finger to the people of America.

Corker and Brown must be driven out in 2012.

Support Primary opponents and eliminate then period.

Brown has a pro Dem party voting record .

We ought to have been rid of Arlen Specter 50 years before he finally jumped ship. His mere presence made it difficult to impossible for anyone else to come forward. Its better to dump the Specters, and the Castles and the like, than to allow them to do damage with impunity. If they want to run with the Dems, let them run as a Dem. They should know that betrayal will be answered by their rank and file and they’ll get to go back to selling real estate or chasing ambulances or whatever it was they did before going to Washington.

Guys that betray you on the important votes are more trouble than they are worth. They give Dems cover, allowing them to claim that their worst policies are “bipartisan” instead of them having to own them.

So I agree with the others. Take names. And remember them.

Wrong. Voting out Scott Brown will send a message to the other Senators that they work for the people and can and will be dismissed when they neglect their duty. He has done nothing to help conservatives on any issue and is worse than useless.

Well the rush has something to do with something. Don’t know about the rest of y’all but I was born at night, just not last night.

This thing was negotiated back in April. Now Obamer wants to push it through. And no one thinks this is odd?

As I understand it, even Russia’s going around telling people that the treaty will prevent America from retrofitting some its current nuke stock into anti-missile weapons. Obamer supposedly wrote the senators a letter this past weekend denying this but right there you gotta know something ain’t right. This treaty is NOT supposed to have any impact on a nation’s nuclear stockpile held for DEFENSE.

The treaty will allow the Democratic party to refuse to spend money on defense, that dollar-slurping bugaboo that keeps money away from their voter base and thus votes for THEM.

There’s no reason whatsoever for this vote to be pushed through at this time EXCEPT...just throwing it out there...America’s all busy getting ready for the busy holiday season, the lame duck session allows for passage of nasty stuff a more tea party oriented congress will, again, throwing it out there, might actually READ.

The Repubs voting for this thing are getting something for their vote, I got a bridge to sell you if you don’t think so.

And do NOT count on these pubs getting voted out come 2012. By that time some ancient vote on a nothing burger treaty, which this IS, will be of little iimport to busy Americans carrying this country on its back.

Russia’s hardly our problem when it comes to nukes, dear Lord. It’s Iran, Venezuela and N. Korea more a problem. But treaties, come the year 2525, can be used for a President, should a nuclear war NOT happen, as a way to make a president look like a statesman. Like I said, it will be used as a reason NOT to spend money on defense and maybe a way for Obamer to look like the President who prevented the Russians, a gubmmint making bazillions on oil with not much interest at any rate on making a nuke stockpile save to sell their knowledge to other rogue countries listed above....from melting the world.

Biggest problem here which you all seem to be conveniently forgetting, and give Obamer credit, he got SIX former Repub Secs of Defense to come out and defend this thing.

THERE’S the problem. The pubs were backed into a corner cause Joe Six Pack will surely wonder why one earth the pub senators are so against something the former Secs of Def serving Repub presidents endorse.

The pubs, God bless their perfect head hairs and fine tans, never do stuff like that. Why the hell don’t the pubs go out and bribe six former DEM secs of state?

Bottom line, this is a nothing thing and the pubs don’t want to fight it, they don’t want to fight their own former Secs of defense, they want to go home for Christmas....

....if only the pubs were as smart and sneaky as the Dems, then it might be an even playing field.

“We have to end lame duck session and seat new people as soon as their elections are validated. There’s no need for delay with modern media and modern transportation.

And these freaking republicans. In 2006 we had a repub lame duck congress, didn’t pass ANYTHING. in 2010 bending over ass backwards to give dems what they want.

Stupid senate mother effers.”

From the article: “...Republicans have argued that the Obama administration needs to increase funding for modernization of nuclear weapons and materials as part of its push for the treaty. The White House has added money for modernization, some of which will go to a nuclear facility in Tennessee.

Corker cited the modernization funds in explaining his support for the pact.”

—Corker and Alexander are being bought off. Apparently, pork is more important to them than national security.

Why not reject this flawed treaty...and then work on modernizing nukes with the new Congress in January?

Mitch McConnell is not up to the job. Why is it a foregone conclusion that he will still be the minority leader? He needs to be replaced with someone more energetic and forceful.

The Republicans are just pathetic.

Three questions:
1. Are these Republicans this stupid, nefarious or something else...seriously, why would they weaken the US in this manner?
2. Murkowski...is she the winner now? I’ve heard nothing about Miller and the court challenges...is it official?
3. Has the House voted?

Don’t be too hard on Murkowski. The real culprit are the Alaskan voters.

Kruschev was correct. Communism is America’s political
profile and the willing idiot’s voted to dismantle freedom.
No shot was fired.

Predictable as Rush knowing every part of his naked body. I have stated here for yrs, when this corrupt “Two-Party Cartel” needs the vote from their bought & paid commies/elites etc they just magically get the 67 necessary votes. Now if they needed 90 just magically they would have them. Yessiree, the taxpayers have been taken & they continue to go down to the ballot box & spending their few dollars on these corrupt or soon to be corrupt bastards.
