Unlikely hero may quell new battle of the Alamo
London Times ^ | December 19, 2010 | John Harlow

A second Battle of the Alamo is raging in Texas and Rick Perry, the lone star state's governor, has called in an unlikely peacemaker: Phil Collins, the British rock drummer.

At home Collins, 59, has been mocked as the purveyor of middle-of-the-road hits such as In the Air Tonight. But in south Texas he is respected as a wealthy collector of Alamo memorabilia qualified to mediate between rival conservationists and historians. He admits he is obsessed with the former mission in San Antonio.

I'd never in a million years pick Phil Collins as someone interested in the Alamo.

I'd never in a million years pick Obama as someone....

“Phil Collins...
...has built an Alamo museum beneath his home in Switzerland, filling it with cannonballs and muskets, maps and flags, horseshoes and human teeth, all salvaged from the battlefield...
...and he recently told Rolling Stone magazine that a clairvoyant had said he was at the Alamo in a previous life, as a courier named John Smith...”

O-gimme a freaking break.

pretty snobbish tone towards Collins - he was also a member of Genesis and turned out a lot of good to great music. What do you have to do to earn some respect from the Times?

Alamo trivia side note:
In later years Santa Anna lived in New York City and is the man who introduced chewing gum (chicle) into the U.S.

Local Hispanic historians have called for a modernization of its exhibits, including a short film with an introduction by Collins, making it clearer that the defenders were of mixed race rather than just "gringos."

Leaky roof my ass. This attempted takeover is more about controlling history. f em.

I thought it was illegal to own stuff like teeth. I’ve also heard it IS illegal to own Texas history documents. They must be handed over to the governor’s office so he can give them back to Mexico. This was started by Bush. (only half kidding)

There was at least one black man. He walked away to parts unknown when it was all over. There were women and children. There were white folks from all over. There were white Mexican citizens. And there were Hispanics who were Mexican citizens.

There were a half dozen mexican members of Sequin's cavalry amoung the defenders, and several black slaves. There were European officers among the attackers.

The point is race never mattered to anyone before these aholes started squawking. They seek to rip our society apart with this crap.

Illinois will NEVER give up Santa Ana's wooden leg! We don't care if that is the price than Mexico has demanded for the Alamo Battle Flag.

The Mississippi Capital has Santa Anna’s saddle on display. The highest number of casualties at the Alamo were men from Tennessee..
