WASHINGTON President Obama is ending the first half of his term the same way he began it with a storm of activity of impressive, even historic, dimensions. Year-end victories on taxes, economic stimulus and landmark cultural change are reshaping the image of a president who seemed isolated and out of touch only a month ago in the wake of an enormous midterm election defeat.
Suddenly, he looks like a deal maker who can reach across party lines to get things done and, perhaps, make progress that Americans found lacking when they went to the polls in November.
Obama is "a progressive leader who, in fact, understands that politics is all about the art of the possible," Vice President Joe Biden said Sunday on NBC. Both parties, Biden said, had "heard the message" of the election, that voters "want us to reasonably compromise to move the business of the nation forward."
By compromising with Republican leaders over the last few weeks, Obama appeared engaged and involved in a way he wasn't before. In the process, he helped himself with portions of his base and gave centrist swing voters a reason to give him a fresh look.

It’s so tiresome to hear the extension of existing tax rates CONTINUOUSLY portrayed as a “Tax Cut”....or, worst of all, to have Pelousy call it “a Middle Class Tax Cut”, and to trumpet the extension of unemployment benefits as a big deal, when it’s THE DEMOCRATS who created the 10%+ unemployment we have in the first place!
Do they really believe what they print? This spin is laughable...
This A**wad Obama has completely destroyed the credibility of the media, with their eager help. He needs to go, but I think we’re stuck with him for a long time.
“Suddenly, he looks like a deal maker who can reach across party lines to get things done and, perhaps, make progress that Americans found lacking when they went to the polls in November. “
If Obama had made this much “progress” by this past November’s elections, the Republicans would now have both houses of Congress.
Big victories.
Bwahahahahahahahahaahhhhhhchokechortle, sniff......
BULL$#)P
1-The tax deal was a loss.
2-DADT can be reinstituted and in the mean time the UCMJ prohibits homosexual activity.
3-DREAM failed (for now)
But more importantly, this shows that the RINO leaning GOP does NOT understand that it's all about image.
They just gave away all the talking points instead of launching an information barage about how weak ZERO is and how he has been pushed off the Socialism of America track.
Please God. Give us leadership.
Wow, what a rant. I love it. And oh so true. I just hope these morons on the left keep whistling past the graveyard, because we are coming for them.
LOL!
La, they been smokin the high THC stuff, what a joke,,
he gets beaten senseless on the dream act, gets slaughtered in the midterms and is forced to do a 180 on extending the Bush tax cuts and somehow obozo is ending the year with big victories??
lol- only the ayatollah’s loyal disciples in the lame stream media can see it this way...
Yeah, Obama just won over the 2% of gays who voted Republican last time around. Way to grow the base, guy.
LOL! In the overall scheme of things, what would 2 percent of 2 percent be?
This is an April Fool’s joke, right??? Oh no, so sorry, it is a typical LA Times piece of BS. Just one more reason why I stopped subscribing to this rag years ago.
The MSM is loaded with a bunch of silly idiots who are ignorant.
Obama = historic
Including the historic number of congressional seats lost in an off year election.
Wow - these people have no interest in the facts anymore, do they?
