Got a big standing ovation here, MM. I agree with every word you write, threefold.
But I got a bit of a story to tell here. There was another thread somewhere and I commented pretty much the same as you, a thread about that silly Krauthammer article, might be the same one. I too said that DADT was a big nothing burger, that most of America wasn’t going to shout from the rooftops, as Krauthammer kind of asserted, that Obamer! Mighty One! Repealed DADT, we were so worried about that. The DADT repealers you might recall were out and about and jeering Obama at recent speechs. I think a)Obamer really wanted to put an end to this and b)the Hollywood homo types are big money sources, hell it’s not these guys would all of a sudden vote Republican or anything. So why not save Obama a bit of face for something, seriously, I think if the American public were to sit and listen to all the angles of DADT, the social stuff, the wheeling and dealing of legislators, the whole bit...I think the American public would be all in favor of DADT and wouldn’t want it revealed.
Problem: it’s the Holiday season and Americans had just gone through a big election, they wanted to enjoy their families and life and not sit and get all tangled about some Gay military thing. Second, I really don’t think DADT will affect the military all that much and I’m thinking the military guys told the RINOS this and the pubs gave Obamer this thing plus enough votes to pass it.
So AB, on THIS thread, does a little ‘splaining about the military, such as Gays within, seriously, the unliklihood that any flaming Gay type is likely to join the army....but folks, I gotta tell you...
Some Freeper, yeah I know his name but won’t mention cause the guy give me the creeps....takes my harmless little posts, quotes a big piece of...a part about how I thought repeal of DADT will never be a social barn-burner like Krauthammer asserts, and puts it up on the Freep thread started by Jim Robinson.
Jim Rob posted a thread a while back about the repeal of DADT and how people shouldn’t be joining this forum to gloat or openly endorse a homosexual culture...
It was a Jim Rob kind of thing, lookit me putting this out here all open and transparent like. You know, JimRob, he gets real mad about something and puts up a post. Don’t happen often but when it does he’s real mad.
And everybody what ever made a post on FreeRepublic gotta chime in how they agree with Jim Rob and most times we all do. I kinda like it, frankly, cause I really cherish having a place on the Internet where I don’t have to go running into stupid liberals to annoy me. So I think the notion of openly and quite publicly throwing libs out the window to be great sport. So I’m cheering JimRob.
But this other Freeper, he puts this big cutout of my powt on THAT thread, and tells me that I AM GOING TO GET ZOTTED!
I mean, I been on FreeRepublic over ten years and what the heck did I say that would cause ME to get thrown off FreeRepublic when hey, I’m cheering JimRob on much as anybody?
I’ll admit it unnerved me. I mean getting kicked off some forum or another, it’s not the stuff of history books, but I am quite fond of FreeRepublic as the place, per explanation above, that I can turn to without dealing with boobs and such.
Am I making any sense here?
So I’m like defending my comment cause well I know JimRob was mad and everything but I hardly think he would consider my comment about DADT repeal to be any big endorsement of a homosexual agenda and besides, it would look a bit dumb to suddenly up and zot a FreeRep member of over ten years.
Then came time for midnight mass and I left, really hoping when I came back I wouldn’t be zotted. Well sure I’d probably put my hands on hips and declare the hell with Freerepublic and all but there was a real sense of injustice here.
When I came back, no less than Kristinn had a post up on the thread telling the commenter to knock it off, that it was Christmas Eve and who the hell did he think he was going around threatening a Zot?
There’s no particular point to my comment above except a little FreeRepublic gossip although an argument could be made that it IS possible to lean a tad too far to the right, you think?
Cause the Gays, I dunno, they’re here to stay. You need a line and by me it’s gay marriage. I thought DADT was a good policy but as all this hot air suggests, I thought it was nothing. Krauthammer keeps trying to insert his old school self into every argument as if HE knows it all. But the Old Media do keep quoting him as if his Ruling Class verbiage is how we all think.
Anyway, MM, I think you summed it perfectly.
I also think come the new Tea Party group that Obama will be back-burnered, as well he should be.
