Imho, they bowed to pressure from homosexual organizations.

Imho, they bowed to pressure from homosexual organizations. That's exactly what happened. No science, just politics. Homosexuality is a paraphilic disorder whether it is declassified or not.

Even Simon LeVay (a scientist who is also homosexual) admitted homosexuality was removed as a mental illness due to pressure from those pushing the homosexual agenda. I have LeVay's book
Queer Science and can't find the quote at this time, but he tried to spin it differently.
What really turned heads was when Wright and Cummings wrote Destructive Trends in Mental Health, as Wright and Cummings are two very liberal members of the APA. Yet what they wrote was radical in that they document how the homosexual agenda has destroyed the mental health profession and the APA.
