But there is such a thing as "obsessive compulsion", which is a psychological phenomenon. People are compelled by emotional needs, regardless of their source, to repeatedly do things they know to be unwise, unhealthy, or simply unsatisfying. At that point, they can choose (free will) to either resist or give in. Most give in because they lack social support mechanisms that might help them resist their urges or psychological counseling that might help them understand and control their compulsions.
Worse, there are cases such as the one you cite, where the young and vulnerable are manipulated for the political or personal ends of others and offered poison in place of medicine. I'm convinced there's a special circle in Hell for people who prey on the innocent.
Homosexuality exists in many species as a matter of autonomic compulsion in the absence of suitable opposite sex partners. That's not the case with people, who unlike other animals possess voluntary consciousness and reasoning ability. And yet, those unique abilities may be overcome by inexplicable need. They simply cannot help the way they feel. I've seen three year-old boys instinctively pick up toy guns. I've seen others pick up their older sisters' makeup kits. It just happens, and there's always a reason, but chances are: you're never going to know. They're all human and they are all God's children. Whether they belong in the Army is another matter, entirely...
What is being debated is the idea that a destructive and deadly human desire, or compulsion should be taught to children as normal and natural. If society should celebrate it, and institutions should intimidate (with speech codes) and punish those who speak of it negatively (with hate crime laws), as they do to preachers in Canada for example.
And if our Government should sanction this deadly desire thru legal and fiscal means.
