When Eugene Jenkins showed up at St. Paul AME Church at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, he didnt know he would be one of the last people to get a ticket for assistance with his heating bill.
He waited in line until 7 a.m., when officials started to hand out the tickets, then went home for a few hours before returning at 10 a.m. By the time he had finished up his paperwork, it was 1:15 p.m., making for a long day.
Jimmie Samuel, executive director of the agency, said the need for assistance in Bibb County has spiked, while the available funds to fill those needs have been slashed.
Thats left people such as Raymeica Kelley frustrated. Kelley said she, her mother and her sister arrived at the church about 3 a.m. Wednesday, only to get turned away.
Kelley said she was unemployed for a year before recently landing a job. But her bills have stacked up while she was unemployed, and she needs the assistance.

Just damn.
Seriously.
I feel for anyone who has no heat. But I also think that some people ask for it. That TV is expensive - so is the cable/satellite it shows.
How the hell can this person ask for help paying bills when they have nicer shot than I have?
Just damn.
“Thats left people such as Raymeica Kelley frustrated.”
Hey, Raymeica: go out and chop some wood. That’ll keep you warm and have the added benefit of burning some of those calories off.
Meanwhile suckers like me do without nice things so we can live within our means. Unfortunately, our means are collected and given to scum of the earth like this “woman.”
does she have her taxpayer funded cell phone?
It has gotten to the point where people ‘in the system’ are better off than those paying for the system.
The comments at the site are hilarious. She must have a computer online too because she apparently has a Facebook account.
ping
She’s on Facebook too. I do not know if she has a computer and Internet access, or if she uses public computers, or if she has a smartphone with a data plan.
How did early colonists ever survive without home heating assistance...
For one season's worth of paid heat bills, she could be 'issued' a woodstove (installed) and an axe...
My grandmother heated and cooked with a woodstove, my parents still heat with one, even though they have an oil burner for a back up, and I got through one of the worst winters in recent (last 40 years) ND history by heating with wood.
Just saying...
The government provides cell phones to the “poor” these days apparently. Broadband internet is coming too.
This is really not a new story. Lower income people have been making poor choices for decades.
I think almost half of the Plymouth colonists died the first winter.
Wheat and Chaff.
I am sure these are not the only “goodies” this family has and not to mention what federal programs they get assistance from.
The sad thing is that I believe Raymeica is just your typical “what's in in for me” welfare recipient.
Mignon Clyburn, Obama appointee to the FCC, and daughter of Representative Jim Clyburn, agrees:
Free Internet a Civil Right For Every 'Nappy Headed Child' FCC Commissioner Clyburn
Oh we heard of this down here. I have to pay my own heating bill, but then I have to buy my own TV and Xbox too.
disgusting to those of us who provide all this stuff for useLESS idiots.
I bet she does, mean while she is making some very low income widowed Senior Citizen freeze because they were not able to get to the assistance program to apply.
We see this a lot in Memphis. A lot of able bodied people lined up for utility assistance in summer and winter, and the local news programs BEGGING for AC units or space heaters for the elderly...who then can’t afford to run them.
