Omaha Steaks Drops Glenn Beck

Omaha Steaks’ ads recently started running on Glenn Beck’s program on Fox News.

As with other advertisers, participants in the StopBeck effort reached out to Omaha Steaks. We kindly requested that they follow the responsible action of hundreds of other former advertisers and refrain from advertising on Glenn Beck’s show.

Well, your efforts paid off.

This morning, Omaha Steaks announced that they were removing their ads from Glenn Beck’s program (emphasis added):

Omaha Steaks buys large units of national television advertising during the holiday season. This year, we bought a package of advertising through the Fox Network. We did not specifically request to be included on the Glenn Beck program. As part of our contract, the Omaha Steaks ads run in a variety of time slots throughout the day.

We took your comments regarding the Glenn Beck Program to heart. After further review and careful consideration, we have decided to pull all advertising from Glenn Beck programming effective December 20th, 2010. Unfortunately, due to advertising cancellation policies, we were bound to continue possible ad placements through Sunday, December 19th.

At Omaha, we greatly value the loyalty and support of our customers, fans and followers and thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

Great work all! See, your tweets and messages really do matter.

Here we see another advertiser stepping up and taking the responsible action. Don’t dismiss these actions, they are important steps as we continue to gear up for our broader DropFox accountability effort.

Onward we go…

From Omaha Steaks in response to my letter.

“Dear Friend,

We felt that advertising on the Glenn Beck Program could be
mis-interpreted as an endorsement of Mr. Beck’s political views. Since
Omaha Steaks has no affiliation with Mr. Beck, nor do we ever endorse any
political affiliations, views or beliefs, we felt it was in our best
interest to discontinue these ads.

Sincerely,

Julie Davis
Omaha Steaks Customer Care Representative”

That’s easy.

Find what other programs do they advertise on and write back to them saying that you cannot continue to buy their product because you interpret their advertising as an endorsement of the moral/political views of programming that is diametrically opposed to your own.

That street obviousl runs both ways but Miss Julie apparently hasn’t thought of that.

I wonder if Sargento ever recovered from their support-Beck boycott? I used to buy their cheese at Walmart, but soon after the boycott started Walmart replaced almost all of the Sargent cheese with Kraft. I found I liked the Kraft cheese much better anyway, and never looked back. Apparently I wasn’t alone: Walmart never did put back the Sargento.

“Over-priced! Shop Costco instead, they sell Beck and Palin books!”

Wow! You took the words out of my mouth! I was thinking “Costo” when someone was asking if there was an alternative to Omaha.

Costco meat is far and away absolutely the best of any mass retailer. They’ve got me so spoiled I shudder to even think about buying meat elsewhere. The only time I buy meat somewhere else is if I want fresh, custom ground beef or pork, since Costco won’t custom grind. Safeway for custom ground beef and the local butcher for custom ground pork, since they’re the only one with a dedicated pork grinder in my area.

A few years ago, WSJ had a column about how professional chefs cook steaks at home without the fancy commercial equipment in their restaurant kitchens, and almost every chef said they bought their personal meat at Costco.

Go to your local Costco. They carry prime cuts of beef. About $11.95 for filet and $9.95 for prime ribeyes.

Choice steaks are about $2.00/lb less.

Were getting a prime rib roast for Christmas this year.

Omaha Steaks are way over-rated.

I fired off an email and got the canned response, too. I replied to their canned response predicting that I’ll likely get another canned response! They seem to be on autopilot.

P.R. FAILURE BY OMAHA STEAKS.

I laughed at Obama Steaks. Very clever.

I will print out my email and snail mail it to their PR Director.

Yes, we are. I was but now am retired. I’m also a nice guy. :-)

btw, being a member of a union doesn’t mean we are happy about the way the leadership does things. I’ll never understand how they can claim to be for the working man but oppose tax cuts.

I buy the large slabs of Costco NY Strips (recently under $5/lb) and cut/trim them myself for freezing - nothing but salt and pepper before grilling.

Also buy their big blocks of pork shoulder ($1.65/lb) to cut and freeze in a Kirkland mesquite seasoning & Costco-purchased honey marinade, then slow grill with Costco purchased KC Masterpiece.

8 (8 oz) Omaha Steaks' filet mignons for $109 is a "sale" for them? HA! That's $27/lb - RIP OFF!!

I’m sure that all those veggie PETA types will keep Omaha well supplied with paying customers. Maybe Pat Boone will advertise on beck or Rush.

You are absolutely correct:

from their website:

http://www.omahasteaks.com/servlet/OnlineShopping?Dsp=234

“Moving Forward...”

“Tradition Continues”

“During our explosive growth of the 1980s and 90s, the company expanded all of its facilities, including production, administration and marketing. In 1993, we completed a 60,000 square foot building at 10909 John Galt Boulevard in Omaha to house the marketing, human resources, information technology departments and our call center. In 1999, just west of the John Galt building, we completed another building of the same size. We relocated our corporate and executive offices, administration, and marketing to the new building at 11030 “O” Street. This allowed us to greatly increase the size of the call center at the John Galt building.”

“Today Omaha Steaks continues the tradition of excellence that was started by the company’s founders. The fourth generation, Lester’s sons, are still active in the business: Alan and Fred Simon. Two fifth-generation family members now play major roles in managing the company: Bruce Simon and Todd Simon. The four Simons and David Hershiser compose the Board of Directors.”

Question: How can a family owned company in the fifth generation support a “Statist Anti-American Capitalist Hating Slimeball” like the one who sleeps at 1600 Penn. Ave.?

Political contributions, trust funds, and hidden accounts/assets... Omaha Steaks are attempting to engage in competitive practices by voting for dems who can crush upstarts. Also, the family could be comprised of un-Godly social reprobates who believe in a planned society.

I’m hearing lots of Pat Boone Steaks commercials and 5% goes to feeding the hungry. If I were a premium steak buyer, I know which brand I’d invest in.

I heard a Pat Boone Steaks ad on the radio here the other day on the local affiliate that carries Imus In The Morning.

FOr the future... is there an alternative?

I support my local meat market.  There's a fan-damn-tastic one not far from here that sells locally raised home grown meats from chicken, lamb, pork and beef.

They're a little more expensive than the grocery store but you get what you pay for.

Just checked my e-mail. Mr. Simon, Obama Steaks CEO, is busy backtracking on their official stance which was stated to me by their Customer Service Supervisor last night...which is essentially what your e-mail has. She stated directly: “The ad was pulled because Omaha Steaks did not want anyone to conclude that they agreed with Mr. Beck’s political stance.”

Great job by Freepers and others who value the concept of “free speech” in our Country and who got the attention of the “big wigs” (I told them, “Too little, too late!)! Keep up the good work!
