I left off a lot that was irrelevant. Madison makes clear that the jus sanguinis is irrelevant in his opinion: “place is the most certain criterion; it is what applies in the United States; it will therefore be unnecessary to investigate any other.”

It wasn't irrelevant. Madison said place is the most CERTAIN criterion. That doesn't mean it's the ONLY criterion, especially not in terms of natural born citizenship, which is what he was talking about when he says birthright in the very next sentence.

You keep trying to find wiggle room in that, but there isn't any.
