Allen’s biggest mistake was that he apologized for that “macaca” issue... repeatedly. He should’ve put the issue quietly to sleep by stressing more pressing issues. He’s a strong conservative, and I for one would be happy to have him back representing the Old Dominion.

Another huge mistake he made was attacking Jim Webb's books he wrote. I thought that was kind of dumb and showed desperation. Unfortunately, Webb didn't have a record back then to burn him on. He does now. He's voted for many of Obama's garbage, not the least among them, health care. Pound him over the head with the health care vote.
It's weird, if you read Webb's book, "Born Fighting", its basically an homage to the Scotch Irish. However, it praises all of these conservatives and conservative values, like Reagan. Webb was a conservative at one time, he sold out to get a Senate seat.

I agree. The nasty news media wouldn’t relent and George Allen didn’t manage to move onto other issues. It was a stupid ‘gotcha’ then and it’s even more dumb today. A total non-starter.
