Incoming GOP Rep. Allen West: News Outlets Publishing WikiLeaks Should Be Censored
CBS News ^ | December 14th, 2010 | Lucy Madison

During an online radio interview last week, newly-elected Florida Republican Allen West called for the censorship of media outlets publishing information obtained by WikiLeaks.

In the interview, which aired on Dec. 7 on blogtalkradio's "African American Conservatives" program, West rails against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. He also says he holds the American media partially responsible for the publication of classified information.

The comments were first flagged by ThinkProgress' Lee Fang. You can listen to the full interview here, and the relevant portion here.

"Regardless of whether or not you think this really does cause any harm, the fact [is] that, here is an individual that is not an American citizen, first and foremost, [who has] for whatever reason gotten his hands on classified American material and has put it out there in the public domain," West said, speaking of Assange.

He continued: "And I think that we also should be censoring the American news agencies which enabled him to be able to do this and then also supporting him and applauding him for the efforts. So that's kind of aiding and abetting of a serious crime."

"This is espionage," added the incoming Florida representative. "And I think we need to take it very seriously."

I apologize for the miscommunication. I am all for going after this yutz and stringing him up. I would even call this espionage, as did West. Reading this article makes me wonder if he wasn’t goaded into answering extempore. This is not something that we should be opining on without some honest reflection.

This whole thing is a terrible stain on our country, but look at who is implicated. If this doesn’t reek of Soros & Co., I don’t know what does. Obama knew this was going on, and he probably green-lit the release. He knew it would damage Clinton, a political rival, and we’ve heard boo from him on the matter.

I have a problem with is that the Slimes can publish what they selectively choose, i.e. to censor that which does not advance their political bias. They should publish it all or nothing.

On Rep. West’s facebook post he states that he is in favor of censuring those news outlets, not censoring.

I really don't think anything you say justifies thievery and that is what wikileaks has done. They've simply stolen information that is not theirs. Whether it enlightens in a good or bad way is not germane to the argument. And who's to say Wikileaks has not manipulated the infomation to their own ends?

Re: Rodham-Clinton, I've always said we've not seen the last of her. Now the 0 has given her a big opening and I expect she'll use it if he doesn't manage a very strong recovery of his popularity.
