Axelrod: Obama isn't moving to the center
White House senior adviser David Axelrod said Sunday that President Barack Obama’s support for a tax package that extends tax breaks for top earners doesn't mean he's abandoning Democratic principles.
“The president is who the president always has been,” he told CNN’s Candy Crowley on “State of the Union.” “He’s someone who’s trying to solve problems for the American people. He’s someone who’s trying to improve the lives of the middle class.”
He pointed out Obama’s early support for a tax provision that Republicans have championed, which allows businesses to defer their taxes on new equipment, to show that he’s supported Republican ideas in the past as well.

There are several bad political moves the Kenyan has made, but with the public confirmation of this point this one will be the politically fatal worst move for him to do. Looks like Valerie Jarrett’s advice has carried the day in the WH.
He just telegraphed that his days are over come 2012 and so this should be something the the GOP leaders must take into consideration with any so-called compromises going forward.
