Huckabee Building Mansion In Florida
TPM ^ | 12/9/10 | Eric Kleefeld

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR), a 2008 presidential candidate and possible candidate again for 2012, is currently having a multi-million dollars mansion built in his new primary residence state of Florida:

The Arkansas Times reports:

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee is building a $3 million house on Blue Mountain Beach just east of Destin, Fla. He bought the lot on the famous sugar sand beach last year for $800,000 and this year took out a building permit for a house expected to cost $2.2 million. The three-story house will have 8,224 square feet of living space and 2,969 square feet of decks and porch. A pool or spa is also in the works.

Walton County tax records show Huckabee has a $2.8 [million] mortgage with Centennial Bank after paying off $250,000 of the land purchase. This is in addition to a $375,000 mortgage outstanding on his vacation home in North Little Rock's Shady Valley.

Better than your Goddess’ mentor and full throated amensty queen, I reckon.

That's pretty hilarious coming from you and your full-on worship of Duncan Hunter.

WHat is the monthly payment on that sucker? $30,000??

I don't know, and don't know how many years they'd finance those amounts for someone Huckabee's age. But if he'd already accumulated significant wealth, looks like he'd have paid more down on the new beach home. I expect the payments would be at least $20,000 a month, and probably more even with very good interest rates.

Those mortgages might mean he doesn't really plan to run for president, or they might not mean that.

Being lectured by a Romney supporter is as rich as it gets.

Yeah, keep repeating yourself, you may even believe that tripe. I support ALL CONSERVATIVES. That is why last time I was for Hunter (most conservative) and Tancredo, the only 2 real conservatives in the mix. This time, it will likely be DeMint and Pence (and possibly Bolton) though I hope Mike Rounds considers it too.

There are dozens if not hundreds of McMansions available at below replacement cost within 15 miles of that area, ask diverteach about all the empty estates he passes each morning.

The Huckster is exposing his foolishness for public display through an 8000+ house ... it’s so sad this guy has no control over his impulses for more more MORE!

“I don’t know... the liberal jealousy is running pretty high on this thread. And I don’t even like Huckabee all that much. But I sure don’t begrudge him the chance to build a really schweet beach house. Good for him. We should all be so lucky some day.”

I totally agree. Isn’t Talking Points Memo a leftie site? I can’t get on the site to check for sure (computer problem) but if it’s true I’m sure that’s why the response here is probably close to what they’re saying over there.

I do. But if he started lecturing me on who I or anyone else endorsed in 2008, I’d tell him to shove it up his rear. The good news is DeMint learned not to support RINOs by 2010. Unlike your Goddess of Amnesty.

Now it is just overrun with mansions. I worked at LaFountain’s Wharf in Destin when it was just a sleepy fishing village.

I remember when I was a teen Garden City, south of Myrtle Beach, was an unspoiled beach (to the south). Now it is a gated community.

That being said, I am not a beach person, but I still don't like to see every inch of beach being loaded up with a McMansion, just from a personal taste standpoint. However, I guess it could be argued that if one spends 800k for a lot, one should spend many more times the lot price on the house, regardless of how much space one really needs.

The article said that a mortgage is involved. One thing that, as a conservative drives me wild is that I as a taxpayer, am subsidizing the insuring of risky construction (beachfront, at the mercy of nature) to make the insurance payments affordable. Why should I subsidize an unwise location of a house? Let the wealthy enjoy their beachfront houses, but don't expect me to make their insurance payments affordable.

How much is this boondogle costing me?
