I’d say Kennedy rolled Khrushchev during the missile crisis.

You'd be wrong.

We gave up Turkey ... but disaster was averted, and the Soviets were forced to pull out of Cuba.

We didn't "give up" Turkey -- we removed some Jupiter MRBM missiles from there. No big loss, but the real loss was the US pledge NOT to invade Cuba, which was part of the missile crisis resolution deal. That stripped America of all leverage to fight against Castro. Not to mention condemning to death hundreds of political prisoners in Cuban gulags over the intervening years.

Kennedy "won," eh? Thank God we didn't have too many of those victories.

So what? Castro is a FAR lesser priority than Soviet nuclear missiles 90 miles off our coast. As for political prisoners ... hundreds of Cuban lives vs. millions of American lives.

There was no perfect solution, but I fail to see how a better one could’ve been reached.
