WikiLeaks: British Police Arrest Assange
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been arrested by British police over sexual assault claims in Sweden, according to Sky sources.
A fresh European arrest warrant has been received by Mr Assange's lawyer - as anger grows in the US over the latest leaked embassy cables by the whistleblowing website.
Sky sources have said officers from Scotland Yard detained the 39-year-old Australian at around 9.30am. Labelling the move as a "political stunt", Mr Assange's solicitor Mark Stephens said his client wants to find out what allegations he faces so he can clear his name.
Two women in Sweden have claimed they were sexually attacked when Mr Assange visited the country in August. He denies the claims.
Sky News' Rhiannon Mills said: "Authorities in the UK are involved because it is believed Julian Assange has been living in the south east of England.
"They are now obliged to detain or arrest him."

The sooner the better. I look forward to the morning Bill Keller’s(spit) mutilated traitor rat carcass is found hanging 3 stories from the roof of the ‘Red Rag Hag’.
Right next to Sulzberger and the rest of board of directors.
Was it rape-rape, or just two kids getting a bit out of control(thank you Wooppie, poopie)
Judge Napolitano was on Foxnews this morning saying it is not rape....contrary to what the media says. Apparently it was consensual sex and the condom broke!.....through no fault of his own. He does not have diseases....yet is being arrested for this anyway.
This is diturbing IMO is THIS is what they get him for.....if they can get him for this false charge, none of us are safe.
The Swedish charges are very shonky. Apparently it is ‘sex by surprise’ and also a suggestion that because he was famous, the women could not exercise free will. Rubbish!

I read this from another article....
“The 39-year-old Australian was detained by Scotland Yard officers at around 9.30am after he voluntarily went to a police station in central London.”
He VOLUNTARILY went to a police station? WHY?
article.
Agree. That is exactly right, Maggie.
Assange fancies himself to be some kind of leader but there are too many people, too many groups friendly to the idea of cracking sites of a country du jour, yet Assange will have no control over whom they target and when they target.
Assange is a narcissistic cyber-terrorist with no power other than what he has stolen through espionage.
Just guessing but it's probably because of the alleged death threats he and his children have received.
He has been living in a thieves den. He can't trust anyone in his immediate group or for that matter, anyone outside of his immediate group.
The British would be doing him a huge favor by keeping Assange under arrest for his own protection.
Yes, that's what the Guardian and BBC are also saying.
Good points.
Slow down a bit.
A. He is reported to have turned himself in to the local British police station, in other words, it was his choice, he made it after hiring a barrister (attorney) and this happened across the pond, in the United Kingdom.
B. He has more than enough money to retain a competent barrister, which means that other than the thousands of hackers who want to exact revenge upon the Internet, he has one loyal paid friend by his side.
C. Considering the alleged death threats which were made against Assange and his children, being locked up in a jail for a day or two is probably safest for him.
SkyPilot, lol, those pictures are worth a thousand words.
Good grief, it’s Officer Dangle. That cheap suit’s not foolin’ nobody, dude, lol.
Yes. I have been hoping that authorities have a Plan B, C, D, and to be safe, a Plan E through Z.
You’re right - I was at first thrown off cause he wasn’t wearing his shorts - but I believe you are right, sir.
Protective custody. Sorta like Otis used to get. You won’t fall down, get snowed on and driven over, in a jail cell. Leastwise it’s real hard for the average joe.
Who knew!
Not sure what point you are trying to make. Assange is no hero of any sane person.
The damage that Julian Assange has done with the relatively few files he has released thus far will be doing damage and putting lives at risk for years to come in many countries all over the world.
Assange received stolen United States military secrets and committed espionage against my country.
Yet Assange has also done the same to many other countries, countries with different definitions of justice and certainly different means of administering it.
Do you recall what happened in 2004 to Ukraine President Viktor Yuschenko when election results angered one of his neighboring countries? They slipped a dose of dioxin to an otherwise handsome and healthy man. It was a miracle he survived.
Viktor Yuschenko before ... Viktor Yuschenko after
