Reagan was governor of the most populous state in the country for eight years. Sarah was governor of one of the least populous states for two. Her short tenure as governor gives people pause whether we like it or not.
The vast majority of Americans agree with Palin on the issues, she just has to overcome the false narrative that has been advanced to destroy her. Luckily, she has the truth on her side and that wont be hard to do.
Given that her numbers with independents are getting worse rather than better, I am concerned that it will be hard to do. If the numbers start moving in a positive direction, I'll be in.

I was comparing their polling numbers, (and the treatment they are/were getting from the establishment) which is what you said you were basing your support on.
