Nine years after the end of the classic TV show 'Walker, Texas Ranger,' Chuck Norris today will be named an honorary captain in the Texas Rangers.
Norris played Texas Ranger Cordell Walker in the eight year long show, portraying a two fisted martial arts expert who enforced the law in Dallas and across Texas. Norris' brother Aaron Norris, who was the stunt coordinator on the TV show and also directed some episodes, will also be honored.
"They will be presented with this honor in recognition of the 'Walker, Texas Ranger' television series, and how it reflected well on law enforcement in general and on the DPS in particular," said Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Tela Mange. The Texas Rangers are a unit of the DPS.
The brothers will be presented with certificates by Governor Perry, naming them as honorary captains in the legendary law enforcement organization, which traces its roots back to lawmen who 'ranged' across the frontier posts of what was then the Mexican state of Tejas y Coahuila in the 1820s.
"They join other notables, including John Wayne and President George H.W. Bush as honorary Texas Ranger captains," Mange says.
Unfortunately, the Norris' will not receive the 'cinco peso,' the familiar 'star in the circle' Texas Ranger badge which is by tradition made from a Mexican five peso coin. Mange says they'll have to be satisfied with certificates.
Chuck Norris has a permanent waiver to fly from TSA....because he is a Weapon of Mass Destruction.
Too bad.
