Here we go with the liberal rhetoric again. Youve seen the Democrats whine that keeping the Bush tax cuts would stuff the pockets of the richest Americans, while doing nothing to help the middle class. But that simply isnt the truth.
Heres the truth:
Congress is not voting on tax cuts, but rather, whether or not they should allow tax increases to take effect January 1, 2011.
The Democrats have tried to convince the American people that the Republicans want to pass tax cuts for the rich. But, in reality, conservatives want to provide a bit of economic certainty by maintaining the current tax rates for all. In fact, Speaker-elect John Boehner (R-Ohio) says that keeping these tax rates is the most sensible way to reduce the uncertainty in America and help small businesses begin to create jobs again.
This may come as a shocker to liberals: Hes exactly right.
If the Democrats block the attempts of Republicans to permanently extend the current tax rates, taxes will rise for the first time in 14 years! And this will certainly stall economic recovery, as the Heritage Foundation projects that letting these rates expire would cost an average of 799,000 jobs annually from 2013-2019. If the Democrats continually promise that their number one focus is job creation, why are they insisting upon blocking legislation that would do exactly that?
The Democrats in Congress resist the facts and the truth. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) wants to introduce two different pieces of legislation one that would include maintaining the current tax rates for the middle class and another for the highest-income filers, many of whom include small business owners. He and his liberal colleagues are insistent upon making this class warfare legislation instead of economic growth legislation.
Most people can see through this. We see that letting the current tax rates expire would simply cause taxes to skyrocket for everybody, especially the small businesses responsible for most of the new jobs created. And thats no stimulus!
The rhetoric of liberals isnt working. They figure that if they keep saying it, enough of it will stick with enough people who will believe it. But guess what! Most of us arent that stupid! Just like we understood that when President Obama and liberals in Congress said health care reform, they really meant a takeover of the American health care system. And we also knew that cap and trade were code words for energy taxes. And we also realized that bailouts and the stimulus agendas were simply an unacceptable expansion of government. The Democrats must face the facts: We will not be fooled!
We understand that raising taxes in a deep recession would only further complicate our economic woes and worsen conditions for the American families struggling to make ends meet. We recognize that policy, not politics, will help steer this country on the right path.
We know that ignoring the facts doesnt make the facts go away. Most Americans realize that the surest form of economic stimulus is for the federal government to get out of the way. Raising taxes gets in everybodys way, especially businesses. Tax facts dont lie. And most Americans know the truth.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I see I also missed last week’s commentary due to the holidays! Here it is:
Dont be VAT stupid
By Herman Cain
November 21, 2010
Theres one message from the 2010 elections that many so-called policy makers, political elites and analysts did not hear. Namely, the American people are not as uninformed and stupid as they think we are.
President Obamas Debt Commission and the Bipartisan Policy Centers Debt Reduction Task Force have both floated its ideas for reducing our nations runaway national debt. As CNNMoney.com reports, both sets of ideas echo each other in broad strokes. And both sets of ideas could confuse and confound the leaves off a tree.
These ideas are a long way from becoming law, but they are generating, as intended, much discussion about the merits of each idea.
The worst idea is a proposed national sales tax, which is a disguised VAT (value added tax) on top of everything we already pay in federal taxes.
Here are three of the biggest reasons the national retail sales tax is the worst idea on the table.
First, we have a spending problem in Washington, D.C. not a revenue problem. The Commission claims their goal is to reduce the deficits by $4 trillion over the next decade. The task force says its plan would save $6 trillion by 2020. Its sort of like dueling promises that would never happen, because when has a proposed cut in Washington D.C. ever produced the intended savings over 10 years? Never!
Even worse is reason number two: In every country that has established a VAT with the promise of reducing their national debt, the VAT has eventually gone up or expanded on top of the existing tax structure. After discovering many of the tax grenades in the recently passed health care deform bill, which is already driving costs up and access down, it would be real easy for an overzealous bureaucrat to insert the language in the legislation national retail and wholesale tax.
For the liberal naysayers who say that would not happen, you lose! Just look at the Social Security system, Medicare and Medicaid. Over the years since their inception, taxes have gone up, benefits have gone down and they are still on a path of insolvency.
Both the Commission and the Task Force say very little about how costs would be contained, because thats the real big bodacious problem. Even if their plans could achieve their stated goals over the next 10 years, the current administration and Congress have increased spending nearly $4 trillion in the last two years. And the only hope that it will slow down is the new change of control in the House of Representatives.
Giving the administration and Congress another tool to tax us and confuse us is like giving an alcoholic a key to the liquor store with no supervision, only to discover that he locks the door after he is safely inside.
A national retail sales tax on top of all the confusing and unfair taxes we have today is insane! It gives the out-of-control bureaucrats and politicians in denial one more tool to lie, deceive, manipulate and destroy this country.
The third reason the national retail sales tax on top of all the taxes we already pay is a bad idea, is that there is already proposed legislation that replaces all of the federal taxes we pay. It replaces all current revenue. It supercharges our national economic growth, and puts the power of taxation back into the hands of the people who spend their money.
Its called the Fair Tax. Its as easy to understand as ABC!
Thats the problem. Its fair. It is simple and understandable. But the politicians and bureaucrats do not want to give people more control of their own money. Thats why even though the legislation has been introduced in every session of Congress since 1999, it has not advanced.
People are not stupid. Maybe they will hear us in 2012.

“letting these rates expire would cost an average of 799,000 jobs annually from 2013-2019.”
Facebook material.
Amen Mr. Cain!
Republicans need to respond with:
“Those tax cuts saved 5 million jobs.” Then take cover as liberal heads explode.
Another odd fact Liberals dont get: Keeping the Tax Rates as is rather than increasing them is not really Giving money to the Rich. Its already their money, because they have earned it in some way. Taxes means the Government takes someone elses Money, and a Tax Increase means you are taking more of someone elses Money.
He thinks the Fair Tax is actually “Fair” ?? That’s enough reason right there to ignore him.
