With the release Sunday of 200 of the 250,000 State Dept. cables Wikileaks has in its possession, opinion has raged over whether the release of such documents are a good, bad, or a meh (unimportant) thing. Here is a link here and here from a left/right perspective that outline the case why the release is negative.
All in all, the release is a good thing for not only America, but the world in general.
The cables released so far...

Why do I feel this is a coordinated effort
between the Whitehouse and Assange to take
the internet in the name of national security?
Assange says this has been "one-thousandth" of what will be released. And I have determined at least 10 people described in so-called redacted (blacked out) releases, whose description is detailed enough to identify them. If some of them turn up dead, will it still be "a (mostly) good thing" for them and their families? We shall see.

This is not a good thing. It does not matter what the effect of the leaks are. It is that they happened and our response to them is weak and feckless. More people need to demand that Wikileaks guy Asshand be found and extradited to the US.
I wonder if this Assange guy likens himself to James O’Keefe.
.....with THIS justice department?
We need a wikidemocratleaks to give us all the WHouse emails.
Obama is behind this. He already used it to take out Hillary for 2012.
I agree!
It showed why we should NOT have FDRQ’s in the military! Hence it was a good thing.
Personally I think Hillary did it but I am waiting for Obozo to blame Bush! Even more I would not be surprised if Bush did take credit and he did not do it.
Good thing they didn’t try to illegally download music or the Feds would be all over them.
I’m not so sure about that theory. I have heard it used before, and it makes sense except that this whole mess makes Obummer and company look bad in some of their dealings around the world. The fact they can’t put a stop to this Wikileaks and Asshinge is terrible and everyone knows it.
It may knock down that old drunk Hitlery in the primary but leaves him wide open for destruction in the general.
“Good thing they didnt try to illegally download music or the Feds would be all over them.”
Funny!
Because the Justice department seized music pirating sites but did nothing to wikileaks. Obama white house wants this stuff released because they are commies. they will take the Internet to prevent Rush, Beck, Fox from performing their first amendment duties . That why we must use the 2nd amendment to insure our ability to stay free.

Not sure about that; Assange is a committed leftist/socialist and definitely embarrassed Obama with the previous leak.
This does not make Hillary looks good, and it makes Obama look weak by default in terms of powerlessness.
And there is no way they can get the toothpaste back in the tube; all of the cables are probably on 1000 computers all around the world by now.
As the article states, the downside to releasing these cables is in fact revealing names of informants who might be jailed/killed.
Wikileaks should actively redact those names further.
And you’re right, they’ve released only 200 out of 250,000 cables.
The effect of the leaks are in fact vindicating the conservative foreign policy view.
The entire world can see that we have to be more realistic and not succumb to liberal fantasies like NK wants peace or Iran wants peace.
No one can primary Obama, Democrats are forced to use him.
