Beijing 'Ready To Abandon North Korea'

Katie Cassidy, Sky News Online

China is ready to distance itself from North Korea and accept reunification with the South, according to more leaked diplomatic documents.

Amid the cables obtained by WikiLeaks are details about Beijing's frustration with its Communist neighbour.

The Guardian, which is one of the newspapers given direct access to the leaked information, reports senior Chinese officials regard Pyongyang as a "spoiled child".

One senior Chinese diplomat is said to have told an American ambassador that younger generation Communist party leaders no longer regarded North Korea as a useful or reliable ally.

Furthermore, Beijing anticipates the regime will collapse after the death of current leader Kim Jong-Il.

Sky's security editor Sam Kiley said the revelation was sensational.

"Up until now WikiLeaks has told us things we could assume - but this is explosive," he said.

"This is Chinese officials talking to American diplomats, describing North Korea - a close ally that the Chinese have been supporting for decades and supported in a war with the UN - as a 'spoilt child'.

"They also refer to North Korea's nuclear capability as potentially destabilising to world peace.

"This effectively puts the Chinese very much in the American camp in terms of their analysis, at least.

"It is an enormous shift from China's public position, which has supported North Korea, to their private position in talks with American officials

Oh crud. The NORKs are very much now the perverbial wounded animal. If the DPRK feels abandoned by the Chinese and there is no longer a leash constraining them . . .

The Chinese government is lying through its teeth. Watch what it does, not what it says, whether in public or in private.

Relax. I smell planted "evidence."

This makes no sense. If China is upset by their spoiled child they can shorten up the leash without a sound. At the very least, they have no reason to abandon a buffer between the West and their own population.

That particular leak could end up getting literally millions of people killed.

I am watching what it does:

A few data points to consider:

1) No DPKR response to China’s call for 6 party talks

and

2) A muted Chinese response to the USS George Washington’s prescence in the Yellow Sea

and

3) 2 serious DPKR military provacations in the last 8 months

I don’t think that Chinese dog leash on the NORKs is nearly as short as it once was.

Why is that PFC not up against a wall with a cigarette and a blindfold? He is the same MOS that I was, which makes me want to shower 24/7.

China can’t stop whats coming.

They know the NORK house of cards is collapsing, they know Kim is crazy and his son is crazy and stupid.

The only thing they fear worse than NORK going postal one day is a US/SK vs NORK War.

When that happens they know the only place for them is on our side.

China might be quazi-commie, but they are not foolish. They love our money too much.

This is Chinese Opera. NK does nothing without the permission or suggestion of China.

Actually, this does make a bit of sense. If hostilities broke out and the Chinese backed the Norks in any military sense it would then be open season on the Chinese economically. The cost would easily run into the hundreds of billions.

Don’t think that the western powers aren’t aching for the chance to impose some trade sanctions or tariffs.

The Chinese government hasn't changed much since the days of Cao Cao (for those in Rio Linda, a Chinese tyrant about 1,800 years ago. Zhang Fei was one of the good guys who fought against him).
