Yup, or he’ll issue another meaningless executive order that nullifies the original proposal...but we the ‘sheeple’ won’t notice, because, you know, we’re ‘stoopid’. D’oh.

So now dude's not just screwing the private worker, but the public one as well.

All this, as inflation soars.

That is what I was thinking.

Obama to freeze payroll for federal workers EXCEPT (fill in the blank with exceptions that will allow 90% of federal workers to get their yearly 3% raise).

Many federal workers are unionized so Obama will want to keep his union masters happy.

And that’s why I think the new Congress’ first move should be to freeze Govt hiring - stop making this operation even larger than it is today. Ideally I’d like to see it rolled back to its size in, say 2008, by not replacing retirees when they leave the Govt.

Generous benefit? Ok they pay health insurance, they get three weeks vacation (many in the private sector do as well), they do NOT get a check for the rest of their lives much to the ignorance of Freepers), they are in a 401K program known as TSP and are matched 5 percent. They do NOT get dental. What is this crazy talk that people spout. Now if you are talking about the ancient folks still in the system then yes they do have the bennies, but that all changed in 1987....so for the last 23 years things are not that great for these folks. The worst generation in history is the Baby Boomers BTW. Thank God I am a Gen Xer.

There are limits for what he can do. The Postal Service, for instance, is unionized and if they have negotiated a raise, they will get it. So that is another huge group exempted, in addition to the military (which shouldn’t be punished in any event.) I don’t know how this might effect contract workers, but I don’t think it would apply to them, either, if they have raises built into their contracts. In addition, on a much smaller scale, he has no say over what is paid to congressional employees. I think this is a grandstanding move that, in the long run, won’t do much good because the last time it was tried, the courts overturned it. This is going to hurt the little worker bees and have little if any impact whatsoever on the ones already making more than $100,000 a year. Of course he has found a way to punish the bottom tier and lower middle class of federal workers, the “little people” he purports to represent.

....so he gives them luxurious raises and then freezes their pay?

More political games in Washington - but he’s doing it because it works. :(:(:(:(

It’s a good start.

But the next thing he needs to do is cut congresses salary by 80% and end their medical and retirement plans along with all non security related government employees.

The federal workers will accept this wholeheartedly because they are Democrats first (with some exceptions) and federal workers second. Whatever it takes for a Democrat to win will be fine.

This is a link to a report on Federal Pay

“From 1969 through 1976, the adjustment for civil service retirement was 1 percentage point more than the rate of
inflation.”

This is what he means by “most Federal employees”
The SES are his priveledged people at the top

“Pay raises for members of the Senior Executive Service are not prescribed by law. They are established by the
President through an executive order. Thus, they may be the same as or different from other civil service pay raises.”

“In 1969, Representatives and Senators were each paid $42,500. In 2009, Representatives and Senators were each paid $174,000 per year. There was no pay raise for Senators in Representatives in calendar year 2010.”

Here is a link to the history of Federal Pay

yes, and it looks like a full year CR...thing is, for alot of agencies, FY 2010 spending was higher than what is being proposed for FY 2011, so in effect, a CR will give them more money...cool huh?

They need a pay cut back to comparable levels — INCLUDING BENEFITS — in the private sector.

Oh what — no half-intelligent private business owner would pay these morons to watch porn sites and play on-line poker all day.

Come quickly 2012!!!!

again, from many years of experience in this field, Republicans are good for hiring, Democrats are good for hiring. Remember each Committee chairman is king of his/her dominion. No king wants to see a smaller dominion.

Two facts: 1) fed employment traditionally has been modest. State and local gov has zoomed. 2). The feds are hopelessly outdated and technology deficient, as a result people are needed to process. NONE of the technology gains that have revolutionized the private sector (think Amazon, Ebay, virtual office, networking, etc.) has made it to government. You can only reduce staff by automating their work. The principal force against that is Congress and its minutiae in requirements on everything feds do.

You can beat the staff all you want, it's your local congressman (republican and democrat) that refuses to reform government. Fact is they are really too stupid to do so.

the three legged retirement plan is being phased out. anyone hired after 1984 [or 1986 I forget] only has the two legs (that makes most Federal Workers today under FERS not CSRS) I remember the three legs was only for those with the CSRS plan could choose to join FERS and they had to make a transition plan. Those with CSRS got to keep their CSRS up to the point of choosing the FERS. Then it was frozen and the SS and 401(k) plan were added. There is some complicated formula, but it is used used for those employes with CSRS plans. I choose not to switch. I do not have SS. I did create a 401(k) but not matching funds from the Government as it was done under FERS. I can see the day coming where all the CSRS benefits will be slowly taken away from the retirees since there is no left working to keep it going.
