One of the common themes that people keep mentioning in talking about the new TSA pat down procedures is that those involved must "enjoy" the groping they're giving people. But, of course, most TSA agents are normal every day people who don't actually want to grope random people. Chris Tolles points us to a post from BoardingArea.com, who reached out to some TSA agents and found that many TSA agents hate the new rules and find it to be sapping morale to have to grope passengers. Some of it appears to be the verbal abuse they're getting from travelers, but some of it is just the fact that they have to keep touching people they'd rather not touch in that way:
"It is not comfortable to come to work knowing full well that my hands will be feeling another mans private parts, their butt, their inner thigh. Even worse is having to try and feel inside the flab rolls of obese passengers and we seem to get a lot of obese passengers!"
Of course, it does seem like a lot of the "morale" part comes from everyone accusing them of molesting them. I recognize, they're not the ones making policy, but many of the people being groped do feel violated and it's not surprising that many of them speak out.

YEP, what YOU said.....some people would rather have a job than be on unemployment....maybe?
Most the SS probably hated their jobs too.
Nope. Any day I get up is a good day. Regardless of whether there's a bed to get out of, or which side I might get out it.
I'm on Permanant Kitchen Pass(tm) since December of last year, when I should have died. (probably should have, according to most folks, and I can't really disagree).
I just will not.
Ever.
Compromise on morality or engineering. Not for a job, not for my life.
Ever.

I wouldn’t like to have that job. No thanks.
I have been profiled for YEARS flying on my own as a woman (they think we’re drug smugglers). Why can’t they do this with Middle Eastern peeps? Seriously?!?!
You have a point there. We keep reading about all this bed bug stuff going around. Some of these thugs go between the underwear and skin. That in itself is absolutely disgusting and perverse, but yes there is a potential for spreading nasties too. It would serve most of them right to get a bad case of head lice or crabs.
Indeed. It’s fruitless.
Haha, good one, Jim!
You are a good man. Thank you.
A tried and true strategy of marxists. Pitting people against each other.
Reminds me of one of my son’s when younger, was a welder and got fed up with the shop and told the boss he quit. The boss wanted him to give 2 weeks notice, and he told the boss* notice me walking out the door* packed up and left..
Then they can do what the rest of us peons do when we believe our job requires us to do something distasteful and immoral.
Screw every damn one of them that claims they don't like doing this but don't quit. They will be the same ones herding us onto cattle cars. Just following orders.........
That's one thing--of many things--that bothers me about all this.
“Even worse is having to try and feel inside the flab rolls of obese passengers and we seem to get a lot of obese passengers!”
Well shoot, that’s an easy one! Just tell yo’ Homies to pick out slim good looking perps for the grope. /s/
Its probably the only time in their lives that they had control or authority...they love it...telling people what to do and then having the right to feel them up for punishment....it seems they don’t want anyone to give them flack, too bad, I say they deserve all the shit they get...
To those of you who feel compelled by circumstances to fly, my sincere condolences.
I can relate to that. Sorry about the PKP...I had to enjoy a stint at home for a while, but I’m back at it.
I was just being silly. Not used to the serious stuff.
I sympathize with the TSA screeners. I travel quite a bit and have never gotten the impression that the screener took any pleasure from patting me down.

I agree with you. In fact I returned home this morning from NC and have to say if anything, the TSA agents I dealt with looked more beleagured and down in the dumps than I have ever seen them. I said thanks to one of them and you’d have thought I’d given him a hundred dollar bill.
This is like every agency out there - there are good and bad and sadly, the good ones, with this type of unemployment likely are afraid to quit. If you are making $50 - 60,000 per year that hard to walk away from in this economy. I think the good ones will take it until they can’t anymore and then there will start to be walk outs. I’d assume they are giving this policy time to ‘shake out’ and maybe even change before acting hastily. Honestly, do we want the good ones to leave and leave behind all the clowns that enjoy wielding their authority?
But why raise children if you don't stick with what you teach, regardless of the hardships?
'Consider the lilies of the fields. Do they sow? Do they reap?'
The philisophical questions are above my pay grade, but being honest, doing right, caring for others, and avoiding evil doesn't seem like a bad idea. Whatever you believe.
