In one movie they drank some liquid that would combine with the body to create a bomb that detonated at a predictable time.
In another, the bomb was sewn directly into the person and the timer would go off at some preset time.
So it is not out of the realm it could happen.
We should do what the Israelis do and detect behavior cues, known intelligence on certain individuals and plain ole profiling.
