An attorney for the former Mississippi State player who helped spark the NCAA's investigation of Auburn quarterback Cam Newton says his client has been interviewed by the FBI.

Phil Abernethy wrote in an e-mail Tuesday to The Associated Press that John Bond met with federal and state investigators and "cooperated fully with both agencies." frpa

If guilty, will the NCAA man-up and suspend him before the Alabama and Auburn game? If potentially guilty, will Auburn protect themselves and sit him down to prevent losing their program or having to forfeit a potential championship?

Can Auburn win with out Cam Newton?

Me thinks that Mississippi State will get the death penalty before Cam gets declared ineligible.

Apparently two of their former players felt it was OK to go down this road... did they get money? What does this say about the culture at MSU?

The stink here... is all over Starkeville.

Newton’s problem is the same one that Reggie Bush faced: the allegation is that his father was shopping him around. With or without his permission, if it turns out his father did this, he should face the same penalty - forfeiting all games in which he played and loss of eligibility.

How is the stink on MSU for following NCAA rules and reporting the illegal contact?

Alabama and Georgia both benched their guys that were under scrutiny just to be safe. The Barn won't.

...Can Auburn win with out Cam Newton?...

No and that's why the Barn hasn't sat him out.

I hope Auburn gets the death penalty. Their coach and Nick Fairley are dirty and Auburn will reap what they sow...

I just hope it is resolved in the next two weeks. Voiding their season after the BCS bowls are set would create even more controversy. Before the SEC championship game would be even better.

Sheesh. After the off-season UGA had last year, they need to add a bail bondsman to their coaching staff next year.

Tells me they can't write the big checks Auburn can.

Everything I”m reading is this will not be resolved anytime soon. Too much money for the SEC and BCS.

Again the Reggie Bush episode was totally different. Reggie was not paid to attend USC. He cavorted (his stepdad involved) with a couple of guys that paid him money to be a future agent for him after Bush was at USC. Reggie had no intention of hiring them and just kept the money and the house in San diego.

Newton apparently was asking to be paid to go to that school. Take into account the cheating on tests and the larceny involving a computer and it appears Cam and his father need to reevaluate the whole pastor/student value system they are purported to be in

The entire NCAA system is rooted down into a mess...and it’s like some game for the NFL to smile and pick up players for their league. It’s no longer pure. So I don’t see an issue in paying these NCAA players a set amount each month of $1500 (across the board to each player on the top fifty teams) and just accept it.

As for Cam? He is now 5-stars in the eyes of the NFL. I can think of a dozen teams begging for him. The season might be finished...if so...just let him go and let him hire out to the NFL right now today.

It’s good to know that things are so serene and calm here in the homeland that the FBI can spend time and manpower investigating heinous crimes like this.

The FBI is more likely investigating an extortion claim against the former MSU football player turned “agent”.

After what I witnessed on Saturday, I will NEVER have a kind word for AU again. It was a total disgrace to the SEC and college football. All Auburn football supporters should be ashamed! Auburn, the new SMU of the south.

You can keep your $CAM Newton and as most folks from LSU know, Nick Fairley’s high school grades were changed. Enjoy it now because the death penalty is coming to the prettiest little village on the plains...

Two of their former players seemed more than willing to play along.

That’s the stink... one is under investigation for playing agent in violation of NFLPA rules.

NCAA in Tuscaloosa now talking to a Graduate Assistant who was on MSU's coaching staff. They guy is suspected in leaking information (some of it personal and protected) on Newton to the press.

There is a lot to this story that has yet to come out. Stay tuned

It was a bad off season, but the charges were all misdemeanors and 3 or 4 of the 8 or 9 were kicked off the team. Hopefully, this next year will be marked by smarter off season activity by the players.

top 50 teams ??

What about the jerry Rice’s of the world or Joe Flacco’s who played d2 football ? or the myriad of top talent that toil at MAC or WAC schools? You seriously going to pay the 4th string tight end grad assistant the same amount you are giving your 1st round draftable player ? It isn’t simply paying the players, do you think the Newton’s would accept 1,500 a month when 200,000 grand is attainable in their world ?
