Dogs have a noisier method of lapping (they scoop) but a dog moves more liquid per second than would a comparably sized cat. Maybe it’s in cats’ interest to be quieter given the stealthy way that they hunt.

Maybe its in cats interest to be quieter Maybe. But the article also says that this method allows them to drink without getting their chins wet. Considering how fastidious cats are, that could be a factor. Dogs, being slobs, don't care if their faces get wet.
