Altitude does matter if the object is far enough above the surface of the earth to be exposed to the moon’s light. We’ll see what the original poster has to say about it.

I see the problem. You mean the altitude of the full moon with respect to the item creating the shadow. Got it. That is true. Some of the full moon light could be below horizon with respect to the object. That is however irrelevant to this specific occurrence. We were two days from new moon. No humanly visible moon shadows (except for a giant eclipse shadow) could occur on Earth regardless of where the near new moon was located. It was just not bright enough. Check it out tonight 4 days from new moon. Might be able to barely discern some shadows, but good luck :>
