RAW VIDEO: Mysterious Contrail Off Calif. (screen shots too)

Video posted on the CBS Los Angeles website shows an object flying through the evening sky Monday that left a large contrail, or vapor trail. While cruising the skies Monday at sunset, Sky2 captured on video what appears to be a missile making its way up into the sky from over the Pacific Ocean off the California coast.
Pentagon officials were stumped by the event. Nobody within the Department of Defense that weve reached out to has been able to explain what this contrail is, where it came from, Pentagon spokesman Col. Dave Lapan said.
Pentagon Says No Missile Behind Contrail: KNX 1070′s Charles Feldman Reports
While the vapor cloud captured on video resembled that created by a rocket in flight, military officials said they didnt know of any launches in the area.
Lapan said that all indications were that the Defense Department was not involved with the object.
One expert called it an optical illusion. Its an airplane that is heading toward the camera and the contrail is illuminated by the setting sun, said John Pike, director of the U.S.-based security analyst group globalsecurity.org.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, issued a statement jointly with the U.S. Northern Command, or NORTHCOM, saying that the contrail was not the result of a foreign military launching a missile. It provided no details.
We can confirm that there is no threat to our nation, the statement said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
NORTHCOM is the U.S. defense command and NORAD is a U.S.-Canadian organization charged with protecting the U.S. from the threat of missiles or hostile aircraft.
Pike said the object could not have been a rocket because it appeared to alter its course.
The local station chopped up the video and so its hard to watch it continuously, Pike said. But at one place you can see it has changed course rockets dont do that.
Pike said he didnt understand why the military had not recognized the contrail of an aircraft. The Air Force must
understand how contrails are formed, he said. Why they cant get some major out to belabor the obvious, I dont know.
Judge for yourself by watching this raw video from Sky2.
Or have a closer look at some of the screen shots weve taken.

Expert Thinks "Mystery Missile" an IllusionThe FAA told CBS News that they ran radar replays of a large area west of Los Angeles based on media reports of the location of a possible missile launch, but they did not reveal any fast moving unidentified targets in that area. The FAA also did not receive any reports of any unusual sightings from pilots in the area.

It’s a missile. The United States is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chinese government. This was just the ink on the paper.

Oh c’mon folks, enough with the mysteries! The military launched a secret payload into orbit, that’s all. They are all denying it because they need to do that. It was not a threat to the US, it was, simply a deniable mission so cool your jets folks...

Why couldn’t that be the contrail of the US Air flight? The Setting Sun illuminates it. You would think that this is a common phenomenon....
Look up in the sky most any day around 5pm....on a clear day...you’ll see dozens of these. What is different is the angle.

What is different is that a flight heading straight towards the coast leaves a contrail that never makes it to the coast.

Hasnt Iran bought some diesel subs? Found this old article, but not much detail. Could be a barge, sub, cargo ship or truck along the coast. Have they pinpointed a launch area ? What was the time of launch ?
New Iranian Missile May Outflank U.S. Defenses

My previous post was assuming it was a missile launch, for the sake of investigation. We have had these rocket vapor trails in the past off the coast. Normally they just state a rocket was launched at Vandenberg. You know there were people who bought homes on hills in the Lompoc area that could have watched Shuttle launches fairly closeup right from their patios. Unfortunately they scrubbed launching the shuttle from there due to fog I believe.

It was about 5:PM PST and estimated to be about 35 miles off the coast. The still pics at the link make it pretty clear it was well off of the coast.

I would say there is enough detail in that article to be of concern. The first paragraph alone is more than enough to give it some thought.
Iran has test-fired a sea-launched ballistic missile, according to classified U.S. intelligence reports, which could be used in a devastating stealth attack against the United States or Israel for which the United States has no known or planned defense.

The article is from 1999 too so we could safely assume that Iran has improved its capabilities since then.
