If nothing else, Michigan Republican Rep. Fred Upton has a lot of nerve to campaign to succeed California Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman as chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Upton is wholly unsuitable for the job, as a stroll down Memory Lane quickly reminds us:
» Upton was one of only 34 House Republicans to support the Democrats' Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 that removed millions of acres of federal lands from oil and gas leasing, thus helping drive up energy costs for consumers.
» Upton was one of 29 House Republicans to support creation of the Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area along the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona. This empowered federal bureaucrats to impose strict zoning and land-use rules and made it more difficult for the U.S. Border Patrol to do its job in blocking illegal immigration through federal wilderness areas.
» Upton was one of 20 Republicans to vote against an amendment offered by Rep. Jim Jordan that would have reduced the Environmental Protection Agency's 2010 funding to 2008 levels.
» Upton was one of nine House GOPers who voted against Rep. Dave Camp's substitute amendment to the $787 billion Obama-Pelosi economic stimulus bill in March 2009. The Camp amendment would have substituted a GOP stimulus alternative made up primarily of new tax cuts for individuals and business.

RINO’s are going to pull “seniority”
ugh
Thank you, Washington Examiner.
This is exactly the kind of reporting that is needed to keep the GOP honest. We need this information beforehand so that action can be taken; not be notified after the fact of how we have been screwed.
OH HELL NO.
End the Dept. of Interior, defund, defang.
Maybe Upton should switch parties. He should be banned from any leadership positions. He will undermine the Republican brand if allowed in a leadership position. Forget seniority. No leadership positions to Republicans who supported the last thugocracy.
Upton needs to renounce CFLs. Immediately.
I am of the same mind.
I want to see federal lands handed back to the states, and I don't see why BLM lands shouldn't be privatized altogether. Sell it and put it on the tax rolls.
I would be very happy to see selective de-funding used as a way to get EPA under constitutional authority.
We'll never achieve energy independence as long as EPA sees itself as some kind of central control over industrial policy.
Agreed, Lands should be controlled by the people closest to the acreage. The STATES. Period.
No longer a need for Interior Dept.
This guy is unacceptable. The Congress can do what most businesses do these days.
Senority doesn’t matter. He is not the right person for the job.
