Since her arrival in India on Saturday, US First Lady Michelle Obamas 1960s look has become the talk of the town. On Sunday morning, Michelle visited a school in Mumbai with husband, President Barack Obama, wearing an outfit reminiscent of 1960s style icon, former first lady, Jackie Kennedy. On her arrival in India, she wore a grey silk tunic, which was akin to the 1960s styles of designer labels Chanel, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.
She has been dressing right on trend with these 60s- inspired looks. Like the floral printed skirt she wore as she played hopscotch. The thin belt with it was also vintage, says designer Jenjum Gadi.
Its not just her clothes, even her hairdo is toeing the vintage line. The slight bouffant type volume on top is undoubtedly a modern interpretation of the big hairdos from the 60s, says hair stylist Rod Anker.
Her style in India has been a mix of old world charm and comfort. Its her own original interpretation of it, says designer Suneet Varma. He points that while her outfits are not as sharply tailored as Jackie Os, they are equally glamorous.
So, if Jackie wore pencil skirts and Chanel jackets, Mrs O has gone in for easier silhouettes like skirts, and day dresses. This has also helped make the Indian public be at ease with her, adds Varma.
And, like every other true-blue fashionista, Michelle also mixes designer pieces with affordable labels. One of her outfits on Saturday, included a moss olive lace top from pret label J Crew, which costs approximately Rs 5,000.
The fact that she doesnt always wear designer labels is why she has become such a style icon, says jewellery designer Pieter Erasmus.
What stars have to say about President Barack Obama
Cant I just invite Obama home? Im a great chef, Id cook some great Indian food for him Kareena Kapoor
Its wonderful to have Obama come and speak to the youth...His Taj speech was dignified and sensitive Rahul Bose
Id like to ask him about recession, it affects everyone the man in New York to a dacoit in Meerut Neha Dhupia
I'm not seein' it . . . .
Excellent!
yup. I was thinking maybe even earlier.
Jackie doesn’t look like no MAMIE Obama there! The media are completely delusional.
Now that's funny. Good job !!

My God. She looks like she could take a razor to her wrist at any moment. Oh how well she represents out country when traveling overseas . . . NOT!!!!!!!!
Followed by "Amish chick" or "institutional straight-jacket" or "amorphous raincoat."
Not Jackie O.
Jackie O was about the size of one of Michelle’s legs.
This is the first time she has worn something with sleeves.
Rush has made a few slip-ups of late normally calling her Michelle-my-Belle or Moochelle, but he has done it twice today calling her Michelle-my-Butt.
She reminds me of an industrial drill-bit look.
Michelle Obama: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrgh!
Journalist: He made a fair move. Screaming about it can’t help you.
Editor: Let her have it. It’s not wise to upset an Obama.
Journalist: But sir, nobody worries about upsetting a journalist.
Editor: That’s ‘cause journalists don’t pull people’s arms out of their sockets when they lose. Obamas are known to do that.
Michelle Obama: Grrf.
Journalist: I see your point, sir. I suggest a new strategy: let Obama win.
“not a tent like hers.”
What can I say...her shoulders are broader than his in that picture.
At least Hillary tried to fit in. Michelle is making a fool of herself. I’d love for someone to post the big butt photo of her in that hounds-tooth dress. Or with those two hot women from Spain. Like a poster said, her posture is so bad anything designer she wears will make that designer look bad. Perhaps that’s why she doesn’t attract the big names. Did anyone hear of or were concerned about what Laura Bush wore?
Naw, she's looking for stretch Lincolns.
I always thought Fjords were good automobiles.
LOL! I KNEW I had seen that hairstyle before but just couldn’t place it!
