Since her arrival in India on Saturday, US First Lady Michelle Obamas 1960s look has become the talk of the town. On Sunday morning, Michelle visited a school in Mumbai with husband, President Barack Obama, wearing an outfit reminiscent of 1960s style icon, former first lady, Jackie Kennedy. On her arrival in India, she wore a grey silk tunic, which was akin to the 1960s styles of designer labels Chanel, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.
She has been dressing right on trend with these 60s- inspired looks. Like the floral printed skirt she wore as she played hopscotch. The thin belt with it was also vintage, says designer Jenjum Gadi.
Its not just her clothes, even her hairdo is toeing the vintage line. The slight bouffant type volume on top is undoubtedly a modern interpretation of the big hairdos from the 60s, says hair stylist Rod Anker.
Her style in India has been a mix of old world charm and comfort. Its her own original interpretation of it, says designer Suneet Varma. He points that while her outfits are not as sharply tailored as Jackie Os, they are equally glamorous.
So, if Jackie wore pencil skirts and Chanel jackets, Mrs O has gone in for easier silhouettes like skirts, and day dresses. This has also helped make the Indian public be at ease with her, adds Varma.
And, like every other true-blue fashionista, Michelle also mixes designer pieces with affordable labels. One of her outfits on Saturday, included a moss olive lace top from pret label J Crew, which costs approximately Rs 5,000.
The fact that she doesnt always wear designer labels is why she has become such a style icon, says jewellery designer Pieter Erasmus.
What stars have to say about President Barack Obama
Cant I just invite Obama home? Im a great chef, Id cook some great Indian food for him Kareena Kapoor
Its wonderful to have Obama come and speak to the youth...His Taj speech was dignified and sensitive Rahul Bose
Id like to ask him about recession, it affects everyone the man in New York to a dacoit in Meerut Neha Dhupia
Well that explains the bare feet. She has seen old world pictures of wenches in mismatched clothes without shoes.
Man, the MSM keeps hammerin' at, and seems determined to pass MO off as another Jackie O.
NO WAY this mutt is ever going to be another Jackie Kennedy.
I think this is your kind of thread!
I don’t do photoshop, but it would be great, if it wasn’t already done, to do her as a wookie. If it was done, please post it.
O.M. GOSH!!! I was thinking of that!
She’s got the mouth down. At least she’s more interesting than Hillary’s pantsuits.
That's about $113.00. $226 in another month or so.
That’s funny, because this week’s Time Magazine (the one with the John Boehner cover) had an article on JFK and what Obama can learn from him. How pitiful. Their only response to the Democrat shellacking is to retreat into the past and pine for the days when there was a young, glamorous First Family in the White House. The mainstream media thought they had a new JFK and Jackie in the Obamas, but they didn’t.
Michael Savage did a quite amusing show once on all the First Ladys going back to Mamie Eisenhower and how for all their best efforts, the media can’t turn Michelle into Jackie Kennedy.
I know! I looked at the pictures of her at the link & yep - she looks just like Jackie O. Same elegant clothes & gorgeous hair-do!!
The media & whoever wrote this blurb are not blind - they just need their glasses cleaned.
It takes a big wOman to wear big hair!
She’s scary big. Seein them make love would
be like watching an ant make love to an elephant.
dear Lord. Did someone compare her to Jackie O? That hair and that dress!! The sixties? HA! she looks like she is straight out of a a northern home during the revolutionary war or a house or lady maid in the south.
Perhaps the reason she doesn’t were designer labels is because her last “designer” went bankrupt.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen such a dowdy interpretation of Queen Elizabeth.
That’s $112.50 too much.
were=>wear.
Mamie. That is a name for her in this picture. Mamie Obama as in “Mamie please fetch my little parasol over there.” There is nothing hip, modern, or even retro in that entire hair and outfit dreary, old combination.
Just another bag on the Wookie.
