KOLKATA/BHUBANESWAR/RANCHI/PATNA: Maoists went berserk on Monday, protesting against the visit of US president Barack Obama, by killing six, blowing up a railway station, school and two government buildings, derailing a goods train and torching trucks and mobile phone towers in separate incidents in West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand and Bihar.

Four persons, including a woman, were shot dead by Maoists, in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district, during a 24-hour bandh called by them against US president Barack Obama’s visit. The bandh in Orissa saw two more persons in Nowrangpur district shot dead and a school building destroyed.

In Jharkhand, Maoists blew up Sadbahani railway station in Palamau district and two government buildings. In Bihar they blew up railway track near Kurhani railway station in the Hajipur-Muzaffarpur section resulting in 10 wagons of a goods train derailing. Maoists also torched trucks and mobile phone towers. The violence comes on the eve of the penultimate round of the Bihar assembly elections.

In West Bengal, motorcycle-borne assailants gunned down Kanai Ray, a former CPM panchayat pradhan at Patashimul gram panchayat in the afternoon. Three others identified as Rashbehari Mahato, Sandhya Mahato, and Sheikh Wajed Ali were abducted by gun-toting persons Sunday night from Kishmatganakata village, in Jhargram subdivision and their bullet-riddled bodies were found on the road nearby on Monday morning. Rashbehari Mahato was a local expert on chou dance, Ali an employee of the BDO office. All three were CPM supporters, with Rashbehari Mahato being a member of the party's local committee, police said.

The woman, Sandhya Mahato, was killed because her son was in CRPF and she had been warned that he should leave the force, the officials said. Her husband was also missing.

In Bankura district, a Naxal camp was busted and a huge cache of weapons and landmines seized after a gunfight by joint forces in the Lithla forest in the Ranibandh police station area.

In Orissa, police found bullet-riddled bodies at Timanpur-Binaypur. Posters near the bodies of the victims said they posed themselves as ultras and indulged in extortion.

In neighbouring Malkangiri district, about 60 rebels stormed into the Gamphakunda school premises under Kalimela police station and blew up a newly-constructed two-storey school building. No additional security forces could be sent to launch a combing operation in the district as Maoists paralysed vehicular traffic on the Jeypore-Malkangiri road by felling trees, police said. However, the state police arrested eight hardcore Maoists, four in Sundergarh, and two each in Koraput and Keonjhar districts, and seized huge cache of arms and ammunitions from them.

The maoists voted for him but have been disappointed that he’s not been progressive enough. They wanted a public option at least.

I bet Obama is deeply offended at being considered an imperialist.

What’s a guy gotta do to prove he is maoist enough to be cool?

He shipped Churchill’s bust back to England, he had Bill Ayers ghost-write his books, he started national healthcare, he coddles dictatorships and ignores democracies. I guess he needs to join a drum circle or something.

Irony is really lost on these guys isn’t it? One of the few instances, this year, of an act of terrorism committed by someone other than a Muslim, and they are doing it to protest a visit by one of their own.
