Democrats searching for good news amid the rubble of Tuesday's midterm election results can look to Latinos and African Americans, two groups of voters that stayed with the party in large numbers.
But that, in a sense, is like taking comfort in that fact that as your house is falling down around you, it isn't also on fire.
The Democratic Party was overwhelmingly rejected by whites, independents and seniors. Perhaps most troubling to Democrats was that increasing numbers of women also turned toward the Republican Party.
Young voters, so crucial to President Obama's historic victories two years ago, showed up in lower numbers Tuesday, and many more voted Republican than before.
To make matters worse, while black and Latino voters remained relatively loyal to the Democratic Party, they voted in far fewer numbers than in 2008. And even in those groups, 3% to 5% defected from Democrats to Republicans.
Geographically, Democrats were largely pushed out of states where the party believed it had made lasting inroads, such as Indiana, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin. The result is a national electoral map that more closely resembles that of the early 2000s, with the Democrats by and large confined to the East and West coasts, with the GOP dominating the heartland and the South.
All in all, such a stunning whiplash of a reversal from two years ago suggests that neither party can claim to have a hold on the American electorate...
The Democratic erosion was perhaps most accentuated by the flight of women, who were among the party's most enthusiastic supporters in 2006 and 2008. According to exit poll data, women essentially split their votes evenly between Democrats and Republicans on Tuesday. The last time that happened was in 2002.

“Stupid is as stupid does.”
lol the party of NO..no jobs..
Expect Dems to do everything in their power to make illegals into “legal” before the next election. Remember, it isn’t about what is best for the nation - it’s all about what benefits THEM!
Or something like that.
I’ve been saying it since day 1: liberal whites are the most racist people I’ve met and Im here in Hollywood. They only vote Dem to fool themselves momentarily they’re not racist.
If the Dimocrats and minorities are fading, how in hell did Harry Reid get reelected????
Well...how else can they be perpetual VICTIMS?
Only the trough is empty, but they don't know that till after the vote.
I don’t believe blacks & Hispanics are “unified”; many Hispanics voted for GWB, and I believe the taxpayers among them will vote very differently than the 3rd generation welfare recipients among them.
Lots of money, the mob and unions.
bump with no comment.
The ascendancy of Marco Rubio may eventually reveal the democrats’ hypocrisy on the issue of illegal immigration. Suppose that Rubio becomes the v.p. candidate in 2012, or even heads the ticket in 2016. What would happen to all those left-wing plans to enfranchise the illegals if there were a pretty good chance they would vote republican?
And something about being real tired...oy.

UNIONS.
Remember, it's a free ride!

EXACTLY. If the Reps can pick up a sizable chunk of Hispanic votes (40% or more), they are effectively neutralized as a voting block. That leaves the Dems with gays, blacks, and single women living with cats. That’s a lot of people, but not nearly enough to compete with the other 75% of the country, voting more or less as a block.
It’s game over - but the key is the Hispanic vote, we should be able to get it, but we should also be careful. It is easy to upset even solid conservative Hispanics, if we’re not careful. For example, Arizona’s law may be good policy (for a country that intends to last longer than another 10 years), but legal Hispanics have to be convinced that they won’t get thrown in jail just because they forgot their passport when going to the supermarket. It is easy to deal with (in this case, just a stamp on their Driver License would work fine), but we have to understand their concerns.
P.S., I know this because of a co-worker who owns about 20 nice guns, hates liberals, but still worries A LOT about the AZ law. It’s easy for us to fix so everyone’s happy, but we have to understand their concerns to do that.
