Yet more proof Pelosi never read the health care bill
Washington Examiner ^ | 11/4/2010 | Mark Hemingway

Posted on 11/04/2010 10:46:00 AM PDT by markomalley

Yesterday, in President Obama’s press conference he mentioned the possibility of eliminating the health care bill’s onerous 1099 provision — which requires small businesses to submit a 1099 form to the IRS every time they make an expenditure of $600 or more — as point of potential comprise with the GOP on health care reform. (Of course, it wasn’t that long ago Democrats were protecting the provision from GOP attempts to repeal it, but funny how post-election the President seems a bit more flexible on the matter.)

In any event, soon-to-be-former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi just gave an interview to Diane Sawyer at ABC News where they discussed health care reform:

So, I– I don’t– I don’t– think they’re going to take health care apart. There are certain parts of it that we all may want to review– one way or another. Put it up there. But the fundamentals of it, you know, when we have our patients’ bill of rights about no preexisting conditions, and those provisions, they are– they cannot be there unless you have this basic structure of health care reform.

So, when we have this debate piece by piece, I think the American people will see how they like pieces of it, and how they relate to each other. And that some of that– you know, a 1099, it was a Senate provision. We didn’t like it in the House. The President mentioned it today. We’ve already passed on the floor– the repeal of 1099 in the House of Representatives. So, you know, there are certain pieces of it that should always be subjected to review.

Um, okay. First, Pelosi’s flat out wrong about one thing. The 1099 provision was included in the language of the House bill, perhaps Pelosi will get around to reading it one of these days. As for whether the House has passed a repeal of the 1099 provision, I don’t know what she’s talking about either. Republicans attached a motion to recommit the 1099 provision to H.R. 5893 over the summer. Rather than allow the 1099 provision to be repealed, Democrats pulled the bill. It was brought up again shortly afterward and it failed to garner the two-thirds needed for passage because Democrats used tax increases elsewhere to make up for the money that would be lost.

Pelosi can spin all she wants, but the President’s concession on the 1099 provision should be seen for what it is — a total about face on the issue.

‘read the healthcare bill’

Try to read it sometime. You can’t do it. It’s a maze.

What’s aggravating is that like everytime, we have to waste valuable time undoing the harm done under a rat majority which could be better used going forward on positive policies for the country. We hardly ever undo as much harm as they inflict. I think the commies plan it that way. Mrs Thatcher’s ratchet effect.

There are also provisions in the bill that say IT CANNOT be tampered with in any way, shape or form.

The NObama HELLTH care bill is wrong from the beginning.

It has to be repealed in total, before Doctors & nurses jump out of the profession & before the real Health insurance companies are out of business.

If everybody would quit asking for every possible test for this skin rashes, the health costs would reduce by themselves.

That is part of the 1099 tracking.

Remember- NObama wants to hire 16,000 IRS agents to ‘reconcile’ all these forms. Buyers/sellers.

The talk about the 1099 provision is nothing other than a smokescreen.”

Don’t know if YOU run a business that will be affected by the 1099 provisions.

It starts with 1-1-2011-—less than 2 months from now.

I do bookkeeping for 2 businesses that are 1 man operations. I have done books for 40 years for one person & over 37 years for the other. We have been scrupulous about sending out correct 1099’s for all those years.

THIS provision is hardly a ‘SMOKE SCREEN’ for either of my clients, or for any small business.

So I don’t have to re-type everything here, please go to thread #2619559 “The Tax Man Cometh” & read my post #3. It is very burdensome.

If there is any confusion after you read what I wrote, I will be glad to expand with you privately.

I don’t even know how many 1099’s would have to be printed to accomplish what the HELLTH care bill calls for.

Can you clarify where in the bill it says that?

EVERYTHING I have read says it is off the top—on the Gross sale price & 3 real estate agents say the same thing.

I realize that we are getting dribs & drabs of the HELLTH care bill doled out to us. Sorta like boiling the frog.

This needs to be clarified-—better yet- drowned before it is effective.

It’s the same provision, if you sell gold worth more than $600 you will get a 1099.”””

If you BUY gold, the seller must also give you a 1099.

They are trying to cross-track everything with the 16,000 new IRS agents which will be tasked with reconciling the paperwork.

Just got ours yesterday. New for 2011: Unlimited lifetime maximum, dependents can be covered until 26, and OTC medication not payable from flexible spending account.

They told us the premiums were going up, and then they told us it wasn't because of any of these changes. I laughed.

...16,000 new IRS agents...

Let's hope that Boehner's got some brass ones and doesn't give these agencies one stinking penny. Good luck finding 16,000 people to VOLUNTEER their services to the IRS.

Especially difficult impression for Michelle since she doesn't have a Botox face.

Too Funny, Malkin was impressed with herself, barely kept from laughing till the end.

You missed the point of what I meant by "smokescreen"...

All this talk about compromising on eliminating the 1099 portion effectively diverts attention from the fact that the whole bill is sh!t and needs to go.

Any bi-partisan attempt to get rid of the 1099 section will include a provision protecting the rest of the bill from collapse if a court invalidates a portion of it.

It's a trap.

Does that statement mean you believe it is not in the bill?

IMHO, the 1099 provision was a scheme. Put in to be taken back later to show how the RATS are “cooperating.”
