Saying "the outcome is clear," GOP Senate candidate Carly Fiorina conceded defeat this morning to Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer.

Addressing reporters, Fiorina said she had called Boxer to express her congratulations. And she said it was time for Democrats and Republicans to set aside partisanship.

"I hope all will come together," she said, adding that members of Congress should "redouble their efforts to make sure that all people have a chance to live the American Dream.

So sorry to hear this, but there is a reason for everything.

Maybe Carly would do best to relax and take care of her health before taking on such formidable ambitions again.

I wish her the best in all her endeavors!

The theory was that in a Dem state like California, you need to run a Repub who is more centrist.

They came close, at least Fiorina did, but in the end both lost to people who have no business being in public office. So we did what the tacticians would have suggested and it didn’t work.

Had we run a real conservative we likely would have lost, in this environment. But for several months we would have had someone who really believed what we believe out pushing our ideas, and this is what you have to do if you want to persuade people. In the end, it is about persuading people and not just about winning. Win, without persuading, and your victory is thin or illusory. Persuade, and the wins will come.

The conservative would have been mocked, trashed, destroyed personally by machine politics and their press hacks but they did the same thing to the “moderate”. So running moderates gains you little, as a tactic. Run the people who best represent what you believe, and let the chips fall. You’ll lose until you succeed in persuading people and then you’ll win. Thats why O’Donnell isn’t a mistake. I saw the results on other Repubs running for congress there in Delaware; lost by exactly the same percentage she did. Its a Dem state. Run conservatives and present your case and if you lose, do it again next season.

I feel so sorry for the good people of California, and there are many of them...especially in Northern California.

My deep condolences to JimRob and all the wonderful conservatives who happen to make their homes in the most liberal, whacked-out state in the Union.

It is unfortunate that both were novices in the political game.

Running a campaign is not like running a company.

Better luck, and greater wisdom, next time to these two brave ladies.

Horrible candidate, predictable result... Why the GOP went with this lead weight is beyond me. Should have been easily able to topple boxer, and instead picked someone that alienated huge swaths of conservative voters.

Not a fan of Carly or Meg. They were a bit rinoish for me. For the past two weeks the writing was on the wall they would lose. It’s dumb Kalifornia. The worst state in the union.

Did itsinthebag actively campaign against Firoina, or express his opinion after the fact?

And how does an individual posting after the election on the internet compare with Karl Rove trashing the primary winner before she even has a chance to make a speech?

Great post...absolutely spot on.

I saw this outcome before the primaries were over...no one wanted to hear the truth. Both Whitman and Fiorina were doomed from the start...they never had a chance.

This is what you get with milquetoast Rinos....

Have we learned our lessons YET?????

Yes, a solid articulate Conservative can win in Kalifornia...we just don’t have any yet.

Yep, free speach forum dude. Anyone who is happy that an uber-leftist is reelected (who makes even 0bama look centrist), and calling a woman a “wench” (my, what a ‘christian’ thing to say) is trollish. Act like a troll, expect to be treated as such.

It really doesn’t matter. Big city democrats have a big majority of votes. I though they would learn a lesson when they voted for Gray Davis. LA and Bay area voters will vote for anything with a “D” next to the name. Take Scott Peterson off death row and he could win a Senate seat as a democrat with no campaign in California. He has name recognition.

Teaching Democrats here is like trying to teach moths not to fly into the flame.

A “maybe” liberal Fiorina is better than a definitely socialist Boxer.

Fiorina DID mention the health bill
her commercials also mentioned opposition to gun control
She talked about the loss of the economic status of CA.
She talked about stopping illegal immigration. It was Whitman who met with the Spanish-speaking media here in CA, not Fiorina.

I think the thing that really hurt Fiorina was the 2-week hiatus from advertising back in late Sept/early Oct, when Boxer launched an immense media/ad blitz. Fiorina never recovered from that point on, and was always down about 4-5 in the polls. The reason? those wonderful folks at the NRSC who didn’t want to spend money out here.

Look, we had an outspokenly pro-life, pro-gun, anti-illegal-immigration, pro-business, pro-tax reduction candidate. WTF more do you think you’re going to have here? Fiorina worked and campaigned constantly (excepting 3 days for the hospital visit last week).
The unions are just too damn strong here in CA, and THAT is the real margin of victory for the Dems here in CA. They spent a fortune, worked, and had a great get-out-the-vote effort in the highly-populated coastal strip. Boxer’s victory was there and there only. In the inland, she lost badly, most conservative “red” counties went Fiorina by more than 20%. What emphatically DIDNT help were the clowns who went 3rd party or no-vote because of ideological purity or whatever. The same folks probably also inflicted the thoroughly-disgusting Kamala Harris on us for AG. That race is still too close to call and may yet swing. Just the AI party votes would swing that one into the “win” column. Think about that.

Note: DeVore is a great guy, but he couldn’t even beat the guy who came in second (Campbell) in the primary, do you REALLY think he was gonna win this one?

Oh, well. It’s likely soon to no longer be my problem. I just was informed that I have a pending out-of-state job offer.

Both Carly and Meg ran really outstanding campaigns ... They really did run EXCELLENT campaigns.

You and I must have a much different definition of excellence. Sheesh! Read some of the articles coming out -- even their campaign advisors knew these were hopelessly flawed candidates.

But CA is totally hopeless and mindless straight ticket voting drones make up a majority of the voters.

Yeah -- it's the voters fault. How dare them not line up and vote like drones(R) for the trojan horses on the ballot. /s

I have to agree with you cowgirl.....

right from the start I was waiting for the hard hitting ads from either one of these two women.

I had the opportunity to see Nutmeg up close and personal and she was the dullest candidate I've ever heard.

I wondered more than once why we couldn't have had a candidate with some spunk!
