Hezbollah is planning to seize control of the Lebanese government if charged by International Court of Justice over the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri, security sources in Lebanon said on Tuesday.
The sources told the A-Sharq al-Awsat daily that the militant group, the Amal faction and other pro-Syrian elements were coordinating a coup of Beirut and southern Lebanon, which they planned to split amongst themselves.

Tight Security around Police HQ in Anticipation of Opposition Attack
11/2/10
Security has been tightened around the police headquarters in Beirut’s Ashrafiyeh neighborhood following reports that the Opposition is likely to carry out a “swift operation” to shake up the Lebanon situation and convey a message about what Opposition forces can do if an indictment was issued.
Information obtained by Internal Security Forces (ISF) said one of the main goals behind the “operation” was to seize control of the police headquarters and the intelligence bureau, Ad-Diyar newspaper reported on Tuesday.
It said the Hizbullah-led March 8 forces had previously leaked reports to a Jordanian newspaper about the Opposition’s intention to target ISF headquarters.
Ad-Diyar quoted well-informed security sources as saying that the attackers are likely to wear police uniforms as a disguise to storm the headquarters.

Jimmah's pals.
Hizbullah doofus to reporter:
"Shhhhh - don't tell anybody, but..."
why am I reminded of the Mexican drug cartels?
Well sleeping with the devil is a bit much. After the civil war every militia disarmed with the exception of hezbollah. They were being protected by the syrians and getting more and more weapons from the syrians who were occupying lebanon. Its more like moderate lebanese were being held hostage. After the 2006 wr with israel te government did try to dismantle hezbollahs communication grid and in response hezbollah took over beirut and some other areas, with the exception of christian areas because had they done so they would have encountered alot more resistance which would have escalated the situation.
On the issue of siding with them against israel, that could not be farther from the truth and Israel knows this, which is why israel did not bombard christian areas during the war. My friend in Lebanon told me that you have to have two voices there. An outside voice that supports hezbollah, and an inside voice that prays that this destruction that is happening to Lebanon will at least have a silver lining, the destruction of hezbollah.
