I've read a number of articles by similar foreigners who think they know America. They sound painfully exasperated at the lack of appreciation by many Americans concerning the "wonderful" things government can for us. They simply can't imagine why we wouldn't want government do everything including wiping our behinds if it had the power. Their ignorance about what makes most Americans tick is the sad part.
That's why I've grown so weary of the many lists of "best countries to live in" and the discussions I've had with foreigners over the years about America's healthcare system and the role of government in our lives. They simply refuse to accept that Americans (those not brainwashed by liberalism) don't WANT the government "giving" them stuff. We want to take care of ourselves, thanks, so butt out.
They just don't "get" us. Their loss.
