Being the total musical theater geek that I am, I love the classic musical “Oliver!” so I’m cool with the name. :)

Yep, my first thought was Elmer Davis, here was a journalist who actually was patriotic enough to serve his country when war came, his analysis of events in the days leading up to WWII was impeccable, there are plenty of archives of his broadcasts on the Internet.

I like being different.
I named my Son Lancaster after the priest in The Exorcist.
I call him Lance.

Oliver and Olivier are favourite baby names

****I’m posting this only because the myth persists that Mohammed is the most popular name for boy babies in Britain.****

(later FR post)
Mohammed is now the most popular name for baby boys ahead of Jack and Harry

I think when you lump all the spellings of Mohammed together it is numb er one. Mahamet, Mahammod, etc. Even the Muslims can’t spell anymore.

It really was a popular name through the early 20th. Something happened to it around WWII.

Red face on my part...nobody’s picked up my unfortunate typo in the thread title...it should, of course, be Oliver and Olivia.

Times change. People’s tastes change. Just read the obits in your Sunday paper and look at the names of the really elderly people who die. Names like theirs are no longer in fashion.............

I am surprised the "Oliver" beat "Stig" as a baby name.

Speaking of West Midlands, wasn’t this the airport that one of those terror planes was grounded yesterday?

Interesting that Mohammed id the big name there.
