The number of foreign troops to die this year in Afghanistan has reached 600, by far the highest annual toll in nine years of war despite tentative reconciliation efforts with the Taliban.

The milestone was reached after a NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) announcement that a soldier had been killed in an insurgent attack in the east on Sunday.

Another NATO soldier was killed in a bomb blast in the Taliban heartland of southern Afghanistan on the same day.

The toll of 600, according to an AFP tally based on a count kept by the icasualties.org website, compares to 521 killed in all of 2009 in what was previously the deadliest year on record for the forces in Afghanistan.

On average, two soldiers die each day. A total of 2,170 foreign soldiers have been killed since the 2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan which overthrew the hardline Islamist Taliban regime.

For the record, approximately 1050 allied troops died in Afghanistan while George W. Bush was President. 575 of those were American troops. The highest loss total for a year in Afghanistan was 2008 when 295 allied soldiers lost their lives, 155 being Americans.

401 American troops have died in Afghanistan this year. Obama has presided over the loss of more of our soldiers in Afghanistan in 21 months than President Bush did in seven years and four months.

We still have not accepted the reality that was proven in Viet Nam that we cannot "win the Hearts and minds" of people that have 8th century tribal mentalities.

Our ROE make no since to us or them. They just get our young men and women killed. Our troops need to exercise their ability to kill people and break things. Respect is only learned through power in the middle east. Our alternative would be to get our troops out of harms way and deal swiftly and severely with all threats with air strikes.

Gee, I seem to remember when this war started...the "Foreigners" were regarded as the imported Taliban & Al Qaeda members from other Islamic countries and those renegades from western countries.
Always leave it to the left to redefine the narrative...Control the words, control the narrative, control the meme...

Pakistan. 8th century feudalism with 20th century weapons. Not good.
