Turns Out ObamaCare Really Might Undermine Employer Health Coverage

WASHINGTON (AP) — The new health care law wasn’t supposed to undercut employer plans that have provided most people in the U.S. with coverage for generations.

But last week a leading manufacturer told workers their costs will jump partly because of the law. Also, a Democratic governor laid out a scheme for employers to get out of health care by shifting workers into taxpayer-subsidized insurance markets that open in 2014.

While it’s too early to proclaim the demise of job-based coverage, corporate number crunchers are looking at options that could lead to major changes.

“The economics of dropping existing coverage is about to become very attractive to many employers, both public and private,” said Gov. Phil Bredesen, D-Tenn.

That’s just not going to happen, White House officials say.

“The absolute certainty about the Affordable Care Act is that for many, many employers who cover millions of people, it increases the incentives for them to offer coverage,” said Jason Furman, an economic adviser to President Barack Obama.

But at least one major employer has shifted a greater share of plan costs to workers, and others are weighing the pros and cons of eventually forcing employees to strike out on their own.

“I don‘t think you are going to hear anybody publicly say ’We’ve made a decision to drop insurance,’ ” said Paul Keckley, executive director of the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions. “What we are hearing in our meetings is, ‘We don’t want to be the first one to drop benefits, but we would be the fast second.’ We are hearing that a lot.” Deloitte is a major accounting and consulting firm.

The AP is finally starting to get it.

Obama/Pelosi&Co told all of you that they were for ‘single payer’ health insurance for all.

For that to happen, they have to undermine traditional health insurance plans with the new Obamacare laws and that is exactly was is happening now.

Just goes to show what happens when you pass laws without reading them first...

The new health care law wasn’t supposed to undercut employer plans

I have been telling people THIS IS EXACTLY what its intended to do.

First you make laws that require existing plans to take on provisions they aren't designed for, thereby uping the costs.

Next you add required coverages, that again, up the costs.

Now you have insurance costs that are prohibitively expensive, and employers say, "screw it, its cheaper to pay the fine than provide insurance".

If industry doesn’t start stating this more and more, it will be to late to do anything. Think of how hard it will be if insurance companies start closing down. How hard will it be for them to start up again. I think this administration is planning on this happening.

People in here have been warning the country of this for about a year now.

It was always designed to destroy private insurance.
The rule for Socialists is that you can do it, you just can’t say it.

By rebranding they pushed through poison. Now the question is do the incoming representatives after the election have the stones to do something about it?

During the campaign and during the health care battle, Obama stated repeatedly that, if you are happy with your current plan, you will be able to keep that plan. I listened long and hard for him to add that I would be keeping that plan AT ABOUT THE SAME PRICE AS BEFORE! He never said it and I knew why. He and all of his libtard friends knew that, sure, we could keep our old plans, but we would be paying a lot more for them. They didn't lie, but they didn't tell the truth either.

Imagine my surprise (sarc) when, in July, my employer-sponsored health care policy went up 35% a month. At the same time, my prescription co-pays tripled. But, I shouldn't feel bad. I received a very nice letter from my insurance company reassuring me that things were so much better because, now my children could stay on my plan till they are 26 years old and my lifetime cap just disappeared completely. Well, my kids left home years ago and I am a firm believer in encouraging Capitalism, not punishing it. Oh, and one more thing. Similar increases/cuts can be expected in each of the next two years.

Thanks OBambi, Nancy, Harry and Barney! Please tell me something, how much more are you paying this year for your health coverage?

“The new health care law wasn?t supposed to undercut employer plans that have provided most people in the U.S. with coverage for generations.”

Wrong, AP, you idiots. The entire point of obamacare is to destroy the private sector insurance industry, leaving only government run “single payer” insurance as the only option. It’s about nationalizing aka socializing all health care and the resulting increase of control the govt will have over people. PERIOD!

Seems we always figure these things out ages before the liberals do.

You'd think they'd start listening to us.

But they're just not that bright. ;-)

The Health Care Bill total reason for being is to destroy the private Health Care for all. By the way, I don't know a single person voting on Nov 2nd for a Democrat. Strangers I meet all over Pittsburgh turn the conversion to politics and just hammer the Dummycrats. They all seem to be right up to speed just like me. It is almost like the are listening to Rush and and the other Right wing talk shows all day long. Pray for rain on the East and West coast on Nov 2nd. It will keep the Democrats HOME!
