In what is being described as the largest release of secret U.S. military documents ever, whistle-blowing web site WikiLeaks has published a trove of classified reports about the war in Iraq, including a secret U.S. government tally that put the Iraqi death toll at 285,000, according to news sources that received advanced copies of the documents.

This is the article linked from Drudge. Assange leaked the documents to Al Jazeera, and has shut down the Wikileaks web site for "maintenance". This means all interpretation of the documents is from Al Jazeera, and the western press is left to simply repeat what Al Jazeera reports.

If we see the Dims glom onto this as a way of motivating their anti-war base, we can assume this is another October Surprise attempt.

death toll at 285,000 Since most of the lunatic left are reporting "millions and millions dead" this is likely to underwhelm them.

So the war saved hundreds of thousands of lives compared to continuing the sanctions which, according to the UN, had caused the deaths of 500,000 Iraqis.
Thank you president Bush for saving lives and not listening to Democrats.

Whatever value this has to the Far Leftwingtards, Wikileaks definitely cut their own throat.
The Dems have actually used the expression "millions and millions" in the current campaign.

There's no way just one person leaked all of this info.
This was an Obie dump to once again weaken America's influence around the World.
How many Iraqis who collaborated with our Military are going to be hunted down and beheaded because of this. And who will step up and help us next time. How many bodies do you plan to lay in the foundation of your Utopia Barack?

These Wikileaks creeps ought to be considered international outlaws and allies of Al Qaeda and treated as such.

Just more corroboration for dsc’s third axiom: All leftist thought, from the limousine liberalism of a George Clooney to the mass murders of Mao, Stalin, or Pol Pot, is of and from Satan. It is a contaminant in the human cognosphere, not a natural component of it.

sure.
285,000 is probably also the number of jobs “saved or created” in just one California county .
just ask Nancy.

Wasn't it Albright who said that this was a price we were willing to pay? I don't recall any lib outcry against this.

Shocker! When it comes to reporting on the Middle East, that is commonly referred to as "business as usual."

The Iraqi armed forces numbered some million men. I’d say easily 20%-30% were hardcore loyalists. The the insurgency probably picked up recruits as teenagers grew-up and volunteers came from other countries.
With any luck hopefully we nailed about 500,000 of those bastards over the span of 7 years.

It’s a war!!!!
Let’s see. If you don’t want a war, maybe next time live up to the aggrements of the first gulf war cease-fire resolution, let inspectors in to check things out, don’t corrupt the ‘oil-for-food’ program, don’t applaud when 9/11 happens, don’t be a ruthless dictator. These are things that could have prevented.......The war!!!!
Iraq has a much better chance of being a real country today than it ever did before the Iraq war. Dems always sing and rant about ‘world peace’. Well, peace can only happen when the dictators are removed. Soryy that it works that way but, that’s how it is. Sing all you want but, Saddam would still be in power no matter how many times you played ‘Imagine.’
