TOKYO – Two mass graves that may hold the remains of up to 2,000 Japanese soldiers have been discovered on the island of Iwo Jima, one of the bloodiest and most iconic battlesites of World War II, a report and officials said Friday.

A team of Japanese searchers has discovered 51 remains in two areas listed by the U.S. military after the war as enemy cemeteries, one of which could contain as many as 2,000 bodies, Japan's Kyodo news agency said Friday.

“Is it a prediction or a foregone conclusion?”

I am going to pick door number 2. An apology would be an “inevitable conclusion” since history tells us that the U.S. has apologized for things before (and shouldn’t have) and O will bow to anyone over his own country. It took me time to drink a few more cups of coffee to get my brain working on this one. Just a thought.

I am in need of a Jap helmet. Maybe there are a few mixed in with the bodies.

*pOs will be there next week and beg for forgiveness from the Japs and tell them how wrong we were.*

Reminds me of when an honest citizen gets charges brought against them for shooting an home invader....disgusting!

f8ck that

the japs killed raped and pillaged

my dad was held in a jap concentration camp in mainland China as a little Belgian boy. He was robbed of his childhood and never recovered. He was 10. He watched the japs march in from the ocean.

No.

Good. I am glad they found the grave. Looks like the Americans got a few before they got slaughtered.

contain as many as 2,000 bodies

Of course none of them committed suicide. It's always America's fault. God Bless out Veterans.

Isn’t the Arizona a mass grave?

Give Obama time and we'll probably be apologizing for that, too.

“Now we know why Harry Truman dropped both A-Bombs.

It saved both US lives and Japanese lives but the left never gets this historical point.”

Using the 2 atomic weapons was a wonderful thing to do. It was one of the best decisions ever made by this country; I am very proud of anyone involved in the mission or decision.

I am so glad that the hundreds of thousands of US troops that were condemned to die in the invasion of Japan, were spared.
They were instead able to come home and become husbands, fathers, grandfathers, accountants, business owners, etc..

And the same for probably MILLIONS of Japanese.

It also saved us from having to fight in Japan TWICE.

Had we not dropped the bombs, the Soviets would have gotten into the fight and demanded their half of Japan. So we would have had a divided Japan, just like Korea. And the resulting civil war would have made Korea look like a walk in the park.

The reason why Roosevelt was so compiant with Stalin at Tehran and Yalta was his conviction that he needed Soviet help to defeat Japan, and their agreement for his real dream, the UN.

Obviously, imperialist America was trying to impose its evil capitalist ways on the peoples of Iwo Jima.

It amuses me that people who are 65 years removed from the real carnage of a very real war fought at this “bloody little island” of Iwo Jima cannot get a grip on the idea of a “mass grave”?

The Japanese warrior code of Bushido made no provision for surrender (or for prisoners of war). The typical response by Japanese troops, when faced with defeat, was the Banzai charge. The intent of the Banzai charge was suicide, but designed to kill as many of the opposing enemy as possible in the process. On the other hand, the American Marines wanted to live and return home. They employed the most firepower at their disposal to preserve their own lives and destroy the Japanese.

OK, when the Banzai charge is over and Japanese bodies are piled-up like cord wood — rapidly decomposing and stinking in the heat and humidity — what do you do? Remember, the battle still rages.

You do what is necessary for the health of the living: dig a pit with a bulldozer, and bury the remains in a communal grave. That's what war is like up close and personal. War is horrible, ugly, and full of misery.

Totally ignored is the war in the Pacific was fought without quarter — much the same as the fight against Islam — because those were the rules adopted by Japan (and by Islam). Repeat, the enemy set the rules of engagement — both then and now.

If your enemy believes that martyrdom and suicide are tools that will allow him to win, then all you can do is kill him to preserve your own existence. That's just the way it is. Deal with it.

Sounds oddly familiar these days...

Actually, the Japs have been here in Alaska - taking home THEIR war dead.

We have a mass Japanese grave here at the local National Cemetery (Ft Richardson (JBER)).

There is also a section there for Soviet war dead. Good sized one at that.

An odd aside, the VA will provide gravestones for Civil War (War of Northern Aggression) dead - from either 'side'.
