PROTESTS

Riot police used tear gas and batons on masked anarchists during mass anti-government demonstrations in France.

The worst violence broke out in Paris where 30 protesters were arrested. Anger also spilled over to Marseilles and Toulouse, where students attacked windows and bus stops.

Demonstrators were furious over government plans to raise the state retirement age to 62. More unrest is predicted tomorrow as France prepares for a national strike.

Industrial action has already shut down 10 out of France's 12 oil refineries, sparking panic fuel buying.

A police spokesman said: "Anarchists groups were leading many of the protests. Missiles were thrown and property attacked."

President Nicolas Sarkozy said: "If we must face a long strike, we'll do it. A part of France will be thankful we brought the extremists to their knees. We can win the battle of public opinion."

Europeans in general demand better representation from their governments than we do; unlike Americans, they know that there is no such thing as a trustworthy government.

Though it went against the “free market”, Europe protected its workers better than the US. They don’t have a perfect solution, but they still manufacture things in Europe. We’re scraping out livings in an entertainment/service economy, and an increasing number of Americans are fleeing to “gubmint jobs” in an attempt to secure a standard of living that their parents had on one income...

When Communists take over, the anarchists will be first against the wall.

If these protesters were true Anarchists, they would be protesting government, and protesting against government giving out pensions in the first place.

These are socialists, communists, marxists. They want free stuff.

These people are fighting their own government harder than they are foreigners who want to kill them.

That’s liberal philosophy for you.

Anarchists need their state-supplied pensions. Makes sense!
